ZONING DEPARTMENT

On September 6, 2023 the Board of Trustees adopted Resolution #2023-20, a resolution adopting Electric Vehicle Charging Station Requirements and Regulations (EVCS). This Resolution was adopted by the Board of Trustees in an effort to address the safe installation and use of Electric Vehicle Charging Stations in the non-residential setting until such time as the Ohio Fire Code and Building Code are updated to address this new technology. The rules defined in this resolution were based on recommendations published in a White Paper issued by the Northeast Ohio Fire Prevention Bureau in March of 2023.

The goal of Concord is to be proactive in safety as Electric Vehicle Charging Stations become more prevalent. According to the White Paper, “Within the last few years, the manufacturing of electric vehicles have drastically increased (approximately 40%) and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.” Electric vehicles are here and there are more to come. With that, we are sure to see an increase in commercial charging stations. Unfortunately, there are inherent fire risks associated with electric vehicles and this resolution provides businesses guidance on how to safely install and manage charging stations.

Please contact the Fire Department or Zoning Department with any questions regarding this Resolution.

SERVICE DEPARTMENT

The Service Department is readying the Equipment for the upcoming winter season, and finishing our construction season. The Crews will be out making necessary repairs before winter. The annual brush day collection was a great success. Several residents took advantage of the collection dates.

The Service Department continues to receive mailbox barricade requests from residents. Mailbox barricades are available to Concord Township residents for a fee of $50. Residents can find the Mailbox barricade application on the concord website under forms and applications. Once the Service Department receives the request we have the address marked out for utility location and then schedule the install.

The annual curbside leaf collection will take place on Monday, November 20th starting at 6am. Residents are asked to have their leaf bags out at the curb the night before. Major Waste will start on the 20th  and plan to finish by the end of the day. There will not be an alternate pick up day. The Service Department will continue to provide the yard waste drop off site at the Service Department until 2:30pm on November 30th.

As we approach the winter season, we remind residents and motorists to plan for longer travel time when the weather conditions worsen and to slow down and move over when approaching crews working along the roadways. The Service Department reminds residents with any questions or concerns to contact us at 440-350-3225 or email at concordtwp.com.

FIRE DEPARTMENT

Concord Township Firehouses from 1948 through 2023!!

1948

In 1948 Concord Township Fire Department was established and began responding out of the lower level of Town Hall with a 1930 Model AA truck modified to be a grass unit. Their primary responses were to fires along the railroad track that is currently the Greenway Corridor operated by Lake Metroparks.

1950s

In the early 1950’s, a block building was constructed between Town Hall and the old fire station. This served as the department’s second fire station. At one point, it was shared with the Concord Township Service Department. It was also used on occasion for Township meetings. This station was demolished in 2011

1966

In 1965, funding was approved for the construction of the previous fire station and was dedicated in 1966. Initially, the fire station was also home to the Concord Township Community Room located on the second floor. In 2001, the fire station was renovated when the Township acquired space for the new Community Center on Auburn Rd. While the renovation did not modify the space for the apparatus, it did help to provide space for increased staffing levels.

The Red Barn

The Red Barn has been a long part of Concord Township history. The barn has been used by both the fire and service departments after two other outbuildings and the 1950 fire station were demolished. The barn has been a host to many fire department training events over the years as well.

Fire Prevention Bureau

In 2006, Concord Township purchased the house next to Station #2 that is used for our fire prevention bureau. The Fire Prevention Bureau has been relocated to new offices in the headquarters station.

Fire Station 1

On October 23, 2023, Concord Fire Department officially relocated its operations to 11599 Concord Hambden Rd. across from the old Firehouse. All of the response equipment is now located under one roof providing for a more efficient response to emergencies. This new facility will serve the needs of Concord Township emergency services for generations to come!
