November e-Grapevine
Trustees Corner
We hope everyone had a happy and safe Halloween. Fall is upon us with winter around the corner! We hope you have a chance to take advantage of the lovely trails during this beautiful time of year in Concord! There are only two days of voting left, so make sure to cast your ballot! You can find voting information here: Lake County Board of Elections.  As Thomas Jefferson said, “We do not have a government by the majority. We have a government by the majority who participate.”

Our trustees share Morgan McIntosh’s sentiment as we approach Veteran’s Day on November 11th. â€śWe have many veterans in our community and would like to extend our sincere gratitude to them. We celebrate and honor our veterans for their patriotism, love of country and sacrifice for the common good. Thank you for your willingness to serve, your protection and support.”

In our last couple of meetings, the trustees have taken time discussing law enforcement. Concord Township is looking at possibilities and options to use American Recovery Plan Act funding for supporting law enforcement. We received an offer from the County Commissioner’s Office and the County Clerk of Courts office to increase the amount of deputies to support law enforcement. We are researching this with the Law Director and will have a decision by December 1st.  Click here to listen to this discussion. You can watch any of the Trustee meetings at https://concordtwp.com/government/public-meetings/. Be sure to follow us on social media for updates.

Wreaths Across America
Wreaths Across America (WAA) December 18, 2021 @ 12:00 pm

Each December on National Wreaths Across America Day, the mission to Remember and Honor those who served and their families along with Teaching the next generation about the value of freedom, is carried out in cemeteries across the nation.

In 2020, 1.7 million veterans’ wreaths were placed in total across the country – approximately 267,000 of them at Arlington National Cemetery, including 14,000 for the Soldiers’ and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery. More than one million volunteers participated at 2,557 locations nationwide with a third of the volunteers being children. Over 500 truckloads of wreaths were delivered across the country by hundreds of volunteer professional truck drivers driving donated equipment and fuel from approximately 225 carriers.

This year’s wreath laying ceremony will be held on December 18, 2021 at noon at the Concord Township Cemetery. Please help us to Remember, Honor and Teach by sponsoring a $15.00 wreath(s) for our veterans in our cemeteries. Go to www.wreathsacrossamerica.org/OH0164 or pick up a form in Town Hall or at the Community Center.
The Service Department has had a busy 2021 construction season. The road resurfacing projects in the Cherry Hill subdivision and Fay Road area were completed in mid- August. With the Townships concrete slab replacement program, Service Department crews replaced approximately 900 yards of concrete throughout the Township, performed several culvert replacements and ditch maintenance projects. Asphalt road repairs from full depth repairs to patch repairs throughout the Township were completed. Our crews worked with the Lake County Storm Water Department to make repairs and enhancements for storm water runoff. The Service Department hosted the annual brush day collection at the Service Department on October 9th and 16th this year and both days residents took advantage of the service dropping off their brush to be recycled.

The Service Department currently provides the Yard Waste drop off at the Service Department. The drop off is a very popular service we provide to the residents of Concord. The Yard waste Drop off is open Monday – Friday from 7:30am-2:30pm. We remind residents that Yard Waste is to be dropped off in paper biodegradable bags (no plastic). The Yard Waste drop off will continue until November 30th until 2:30pm.

As winter approaches, the Service Department reminds residents of the snow barricade program we offer. For a fee of $50 residents can purchase a mailbox snow barricade to help protect their mailbox from damage during the snow plowing season. Applications for the snow barricades are available on the Concord Township website, concordtwp.com under forms and applications. Once a resident sends in their payment, the Service Department schedules the installation. In the spring, the Service Department will come out and remove the barricade for a fee of $15. Residents that wish to have the barricade removed fill out the same application and request removal.

The Service Department wishes everyone a safe and healthy holiday season and for any resident with questions or concerns to please contact us at 440-350-3225 or the contact form found at concordtwp.com/departments/service/.
