The Springfield Ballet Company proudly presents its 44th annual production of  The Nutcracker.

The Nutcracker is a timeless holiday classic that follows Clara and her Nutcracker from a lavish Christmas party to a fierce battle with the evil Mouse King, then to a magical journey through the Land of Snow and the Kingdom of Sweets. The production features a cast of more than 120, including our Company dancers, local adult actors, young dancers from the community and professional guest artists.

Educating Our Dancers

Springfield Ballet Company dancers and Trainees had an exciting weekend of education October 20 and 21!

On Saturday, October 20, Aasne (Vigesaa) and James Daniels led our Company dancers in an acting workshop where they explored the concept of using a verb to drive their motivation for their characters. The girls were very eager and receptive to adding another layer to their performance qualities! Aasne is an assistant professor of theatre at Illinois College; and she and her husband James are actively involved in community theatre. (Aasne also performs in SBC's annual production of The Nutcracker as Clara's mother, Frau Silberhaus.)

On Sunday, October 21, Grace Luttrell Nanavati taught our Trainees a challenging classical ballet technique class. Grace co-founded the Springfield Ballet Company in 1975 and still serves on our board of directors as Director Emeritus.

In addition to regular classes with SBC Artistic Director Julie Ratz and Ballet Mistress Gina DeCroix Russell, Company dancers and Trainees are continually exposed to a broad range of talented and inspiring master teachers throughout the season!
