Helping Needy Families Have A Brighter Future

With the garage sale and golf tournament behind us (scroll down for results), it’s time for Help Give Hope (HGH) to focus its energies and resources on our annual Christmas project, a three month labor of love.  As most know, HGH started as a holiday seasonal effort to help children and families-in-need. Though today a robust year-round charity, the Christmas project remains our hallmark event…by far our single biggest and most far-reaching effort of the year. And no surprise, the 2020 road to December 25th for HGH will have some new and interesting twists and turns but the end result will remain the same, hundreds of children having a Christmas they’ll never forget!

Let’s briefly look back on recent successes and then take a closer look at what lies ahead for the remainder of 2020...

On Friday and Saturday, Sept. 11th & 12th, HGH held its final garage sale of 2020. The warehouse was packed (almost too packed, if that's possible) and we needed to hit a home run with this sale. Our goal…to make as much money as possible and literally get rid of everything! The result? We made a lot of money and literally got rid of just about everything!! Led by Sandy Zurfluh and Brad Gilbert, our amazing team of garage sale volunteers, who had already put in a year’s worth of sweat equity to make this a reality, gutted out two long and incredibly busy days. Check out the picture of the check (presented the following week at our golf tourney) surrounded by many of those wonderful volunteers. Collectively, our 2020 garage sales raised $81,765, a record for HGH! Thank you again for our wonderful family of volunteers! And thank you to all who donated items for these sales…your generosity is so very much appreciated and NEVER taken for granted! We will begin accepting 2021 garage sale donations the second week of January.

September is normally the best month for golf and Monday, Sept. 21st was a prime example. The 22nd Annual Arris Pizza/Paul Zurfluh Charity Golf Tournament was played under sunny skies, temps in the mid-80’s and light winds. How can you not have fun on a day like that, even if bad golf is involved? Twin Oaks Country Club once again treated us like royalty with Rich Brittan and his pro shop team doing their normal outstanding job, a superbly conditioned course, a great lunch and a fun post-party on the patio. Arris Pizza catered that post-party with 80 delicious pizzas for several hundred golfers and their families & friends.

Pictured above, from left, is the winning team of Mike Patton (eat your heart out Crump!), Jeff Woods & Brian Rice who shot 58 (-13). Also pictured is their playing partners Lance Bekemeier, Todd Finke & Chad Fagg.

This is not a fundraiser yet we are happy to report we raised approximately $7,000, all of which will go towards the Rick Richardson scholarship fund.

By the way, our hope is to move this tourney permanently to mid-September – more on that soon. Thank you to all who played and all that volunteered!

As we have all noted, these times are definitely changing how we do all things. HGH is not immune from this! We have adapted our schedules to make our Christmas adoptions seem as normal as possible. We are starting our visits and the volunteers are ready to go!

PLEASE NOTE: Our biggest change is that we will be shopping Monday and Tuesday, NOVEMBER 16 and 17! We must be prepared for shortages on toys. This will give us the time needed for restock and making sure everyone gets what they ask for on Christmas morning. PLEASE let us know if you have any concerns, but rest assured our #1 priority is the safety and health of our volunteers! As such, we believe we have made shopping and wrapping safe for everyone. Below is the schedule and we hope you will join us for all things Christmas at HGH!

Help us buy the 7” Fire Tablet on Prime Day!
Follow the link below on October 13th & 14th.

HGH was excited to present to Jeff and Brenda Spies, owners of Arris Pizza, the Partnership of the Year award. They, along with Brenda's daughter Jessica, have been amazing in their support. We believe the inscription on the plaque says it all..."You may say Jeff and Brenda Spies inherited Help Give Hope when they purchased Arris Pizza in 2016. They could have walked away but chose, instead, to not only continue the wonderful long-standing tradition of support, but bring even more to the table. Theirs is a year-round effort...they are there for us at every event and in every season. Jeff, Brenda and Arris Pizza have become not only friends but invaluable partners. We cannot thank them enough for all they do!"
