ASBESTOS AWARENESS WEEK, APRIL 1-7

The first week of April is Asbestos Awareness Week. Once a popular material for building construction, this substance is known to be a major health hazard. OHCOW offers resources to inform about the dangers of asbestos that is still present in many buildings.

CONGRATULATIONS

On March 10, the Ontario Medal for Good Citizenship was presented to Janice Hobbs Martell, Occupational Health Coordinator at OHCOW. The award is in recognition of her work researching the health affects of McIntyre Powder, and advocating for compensation to miners (and their families) injured or killed by this lethal substance. Congratulations Janice!

2025 NATIONAL DAY OF MOURNING

Every year on April 28, Canada recognizes the National Day of Mourning, a day to remember and honour those lives lost or changed forever due to a workplace tragedy. Organizations, communities, and individuals across Ontario will be able to hold ceremonies, attend events or simply observe a moment of silence at 11 a.m. on April 28. Stay tuned for more information about OHCOW's commemoration of this date.
