The OLMA Overview -- April 13, 2018
While it may be Friday the 13th, it's all good at OLMA. In fact, we are incredibly lucky to have a brand new, fully furnished porch. It's already getting tons of use and is cozy as can be. A current OLMA family and two alumnae families contributed a great deal to this project -- as well as to the latest decor in our main lobby. Their wish to all of us is to enjoy it and to always treasure the spirit of sisterhood that bonds us all.

Our softball field also got a new addition this week. Thanks to the generosity of Terry Catalana and family, we now have an electronic scoreboard -- and it is awesome! You can check out a photo of it below and I ask you to join me in thanking Mrs. Catalana for her continued generosity to our school and students.

Next week will have its share of celebrations, as well. On Wednesday morning, we will be inducting 16 new members to the Mother Patricia Gaynor chapter of the National Honor Society. We will also be holding a mock interview day for juniors. Each student, dressed for success, will participate in two interviews. We are fortunate to have seven outside professionals who have volunteered to conduct interviews that day.

We will also be welcoming the Class of 2022 and their families on Accepted Students Saturday -- and we couldn't be more excited. They will enjoy a delicious breakfast, followed by an information session that will cover academics, leadership, athletics, sisterhood, and more. Student and parent volunteers are needed, so please let Mrs. Cusick or Mrs. Kinkade know if you can help.

Looking ahead, we have two important events coming up quickly. The first is OLMA's Designer Bag BINGO. Tickets are still available, so please help us pack the house. The next morning, we will gather outside for OLMA Spring Fest. There will be softball, lacrosse, yard games, food, and more. There will also be seven Ford vehicles on hand for you to take for a test drive, free of charge. I have my sights set on the F-150! Please bring the whole family and help us celebrate all things OLMA Athletics.

Enjoy the spring weather this weekend. See you soon. -- Mrs. Coyle
Student Spotlight
Delaney Donzola, Class of 2020
If there's one thing that Delaney Donzola has learned during her first 16 years on Earth, it's to never give up. This is evidenced by Delaney's determination to succeed after being diagnosed with Osteochondritis Dissecans at the age of 10. Delaney explained that this condition has affected her knees. "They were basically wearing away," she said. "The doctors performed two surgeries to try and rebuild them with bone graphs." Those two surgeries were followed by two more to remove hardware put in place during the earlier ones -- and she's not done yet.

This condition has forced me to make to some changes," said Delaney. "I used to dance and loved to play soccer, but those activities aren't possible now, at least not yet." Instead, Delaney has immersed herself in her schoolwork, clubs and student government. "I'm an OLMA Ambassador and love helping to promote our school," she said. "I'm also part of the Interact Club. I was in Interact in middle school and just continued it when I came to OLMA. It's all about service, which is something I really enjoy." Delaney has also taken on a leadership role by serving as Vice President of her class. As you can see, while she has spent a lot of time on crutches, she didn't let them slow her down one bit.

Delaney found her way to OLMA through her older sister. "Devan is a year older than me and loved it here, so it was just natural that I'd want to see what it was all about," she said. "I shadowed a few times and was really happy with what I saw and how the school made me feel. It was a pretty easy decision." When asked about her favorite part of attending OLMA, Delaney didn't hesitate for a minute. "I love the family environment here," she said. "It's small and always feels like home."

Looking ahead, Delaney is hoping to slowly resume some athletic activity. "I can do more this year than I could last year, so you never know," she said. You're certainly right about that, Delaney, especially when it comes to someone as resilient and talented as you are. Thanks for sharing your story.

Spring Out And Over To Spring Fest On April 28
Saturday, April 28 will be no day to sleep in. Instead, we hope you will spring out of bed and make your way over to OLMA for our first annual Spring Fest. It's going to be a blast. Highlights of the day include a softball tournament, lacrosse game, yard games, food and and more. We'll even have a food truck on site!

But that's not all. You will also have the chance to test drive -- free of charge -- seven of Ford's hottest vehicles. Some of these include the Mustang, F-150, and Expedition. The best part is that Ford will be making a donation to OLMA each time one of us gets behind the wheel. Test drives begin at 8:30 AM and the softball tournament starts at 9 AM

While you are here, you can also check out OLMA Softball's first-ever electronic scoreboard. Donated by Terry Catalana and family , this scoreboard is a beauty! With the help of Jim Mackay, Chris Merlino, and Sam Scimeca, the scoreboard was installed earlier this week. Take a look:
Have You Seen Our New Porch?
It is beautiful! The next time you're here, be sure to take a look. Many hours of work went into renovating and designing this new space -- not to mention a major donation. For that we have Frank and Kathy Ryan to thank. We are so grateful to them for giving of their time, talent and treasure for the students, faculty and staff of OLMA. This porch made perfect is already earning "favorite-spot" status!
