The OLMA Overview -- October 20, 2017
This week I was literally up a tree -- as were many of our seniors and Ms. Valore! Our Senior Retreat has two parts this year and Tuesday's outing to the Cape May Zoo's Tree to Tree Adventure Park was Part 1. With lots of support, we all pushed our fears aside and went for it as we completed four courses and did some zip lining. I came home with a few bumps and bruises, but that was a small price to pay to see our girls take to the trees and succeed.

Mini-Mester registration is officially complete and we are incredibly excited. Session moderators will begin meeting with their students soon to be sure all details are taken care of way in advance. Thank you for guiding your daughters in this process.

The girls are enjoying a well-deserved Dress Down Day today as thanks for doing such a great job hosting our Shadow Day visitors last week. Shadow Day No. 2 is next Friday, October 27. We've tweaked the schedule a little bit. We will begin at the same time (8 AM), but end at 1 PM. Buses will run on a normal schedule.   We still have a few openings left if you know of anyone who is interested. We are expecting another full house.

Right on the heels of that event is Open House. It's scheduled for November 9, from 8:30 AM -- 12:30 PM. It's technically a day off, but we need many student volunteers. Parent volunteers are also welcome as the Parents Society is always hard at work that day.

Many of our Interact Club members will be cleaning sand dunes and planting dune grass tomorrow in Atlantic City along with students from other area high schools. It looks like they will have perfect weather. Enjoy the weekend. -- Mrs. Coyle

Student Spotlight
Rachel Donahue, Class of 2020

The Class of 2020 grew by five students this year. One of the newest members of our Sophomore class is Rachel Donahue who transferred to us from Paul VI High School. While the decision to make the switch wasn't an easy one, Rachel couldn't be happier now that she's here.

"My middle school was very small, so I wanted to try something bigger, which is why I initially chose to attend Paul VI," said Rachel. "After a few months there, I knew something wasn't quite right. I had lots of friends, but missed the smaller environment. Academically I did okay, but wasn't nearly as focused as I am now. Plus, everyone at OLMA is so genuine. I love it here."

Rachel didn't waste anytime getting involved in the life of our school. Already a club volleyball player, Rachel joined ours and is the libero for OLMA's JV team. During the winter season, Rachel plans on joining the Cheerleading team. She's a flyer and looks forward to cheering for both Prep and OLMA.

Academically, Rachel is doing well and says that she loves all of her classes. She's also especially excited about Mini-Mesters. These 35-hour, intensive courses will take place from June 4-12. Rachel selected the Canada trip. "This will be my first time out of the country," she said. "I can't wait!"

We can't either. Keep up the good work, Rachel. We are so glad you're here.
Senior Retreat Part 1
Part 1 of this year's Senior Retreat was focused on the experience rather than reflection; however, it did test their faith. The students had to trust in themselves and each other to successfully navigate and conquer the Cape May Zoo's aerial adventure course. In addition to completing a number challenging obstacles, the girls had the opportunity to fly through the sky zip lining -- many for the first time.

"The girls met the challenge of the Tree to Tree Adventure Park head on and did an incredible job supporting each other in their efforts," said Ms. Valore, Dean of Academics & Leadership. "There were definitely moments that tested their bravery, but by working together they rose above self-doubt and conquered their fears. It was awesome to watch and fun to take part in the special day." Stay tuned for Part 2!
2017 OPEN HOUSE -- NOVEMBER 9
On November 9, from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM, we will hold our annual Open House! We are expecting a great crowd and can't wait to show off our school and all that OLMA has to offer. OLMA's Student Ambassadors (pictured below) will be on hand that day, but we are looking for additional volunteers from all grades to assist them. If you can help, please sign up on the sheet posted outside of Mrs. Cusick's office. We are looking forward to a great day!
Winter Sports Coming Soon
The winter sports season will be here before you know it. In order to prepare, Coach Lenguadoro will be holding a Winter Athletes Parent Meeting on Wednesday, November 8 in Carew Hall at 6:30 PM. In addition, all winter athletes who are interested in Basketball, Swim or Winter Track, can register in the Athletic Director's office beginning today. We are looking forward to an awesome season.
