The OLMA Overview -- September 7, 2017
I love summer just as much as the next person, but I couldn't be more excited to get this new school year under way! Three days ago, we welcomed the 44-member Class of 2021 and nine transfer students, including our new Rotary Youth Exchange student from Italy. We welcomed back our sophomores, juniors and seniors who were anxious to see what's new -- and there was plenty.

Over the summer, we welcomed aboard Matt Lenguadoro as our new Athletic Director. We also added Nicole Donovan to the position of Health Science Instructor. She will teach Psychology, Exercise Science and Lifetime Fitness. Also new is Wes Jarrell who will be teaching French, a section of Spanish and Literature. We also officially welcomed Jennifer Valore as our new Dean of Academics & Leadership. She joined us as Lacrosse coach in the spring and began her newest role on July 1.

Academically, we've added a number of new Honors courses and three new Advanced Placement courses. We are also ready to kick off a new approach to extra-curricular clubs, as well as our Mini-Mester program. New for freshmen and sophomore students is our L2T Program developed by Ms. Valore. Designed to deliver leadership, life skills & technology education, L2T focuses on the incorporation of six key learning components: Lifetime Fitness, Bravery Training, Self Discovery, STEM 101, Public Speaking & Digital Literacy.

On the facilities front, our new MAC Lab is truly state-of-the-art. We can't wait to show it off on Back-to-School Night. We also outifitted our third-floor computer lab with laptops. The next time you are in the building, you may want to bring your workout clothes to test out our new fitness center, core exercise, erg, and team rooms now located above the pool.

As you can tell, there's a lot to be excited about at OLMA these days. As always, thank you for your support. I look forward to seeing you all soon. In the meantime, feel free to reach out to me with any questions, or simply to check in. Take care and welcome back. -- Mrs. Coyle
Student Spotlight

Welcome back to the OLMA Overview's Student Spotlight. Each week, one student will be featured here. Students will be interviewed and photographed by Mrs. Kinkade on Monday mornings. It's a lot of fun! It's also a great way for your fellow students to get to know you. We also love showcasing the wonderful young women of OLMA to all of our weekly readers.

If you would like to be featured, please sign up with Mrs. Kinkade. The column will begin with next week's issue! For a look at some past profiles, click here .
Seniors Celebrate Last First Day of High School
We can't wait to see all that you accomplish this year!
OLMA Welcomes Class of 2021
They are an amazingly diverse group of young women -- a mix of musicians, actors, athletes, equestrians, singers, and more -- all here to get the very most out of their high school years as part of the OLMA Sisterhood. Last week, our incoming freshmen participated in the first-ever "Big-Little Sleepover." The seniors did a wonderful job planning the event and joined their new little sisters in what was an awesome night.

On Tuesday, freshmen arrived, most with butterflies in their stomachs, but with friends waiting to see and welcome them back. Below are a few photo highlights:

A Word of Thanks
Thanks to the generosity of two families, Mr. Wes Jarrell's classroom is now outfitted with the coolest-ever "conference" tables! Of course, they will also make for some amazing ping pong!

We are grateful to the Reynold's Family from St. Augustine Prep for donating the funds used to purchase a brand new table and accessories. We also want to thank OLMA's own Riordan Family for donating their "like new" table to the cause. As you can see, both tables are a hit!

P.S. -- Ping Pong club coming in second semester!
