When it comes down to it, there is only 1 thing you need to know when choosing a doctor and it's probably not what you think!

If you had only ONE question to ask, it should be:

Does she/he have hospital privileges?

That's because, if your doctor has hospital privileges, she/he also has achieved ALL of the following:

has finished training in a board certified residency program
has completed yearly continuing education courses to remain at the forefront of her/his specialty
has been teaching residents and covering emergency call at the hospital
has been regularly reviewed and approved by her/his peers
has been granted permission by experts in her/his field to perform specialty procedures
has been maintaining sufficient malpractice insurance coverage
has been regularly deemed physically and mentally fit
has been licensed without interruption in the state that she/he is practicing

Although the single-most important criterion when choosing a doctor is that she/he has hospital privileges, it is also important that your sense of aesthetics is aligned with that of your surgeon (view before and after photos!) and that you are comfortable with your surgeon's communication skills. That way, you can be certain that all of your questions will be answered to your satisfaction.
