Remembering Jim Wood

Former Mayor Jim Wood, who dedicated more than four decades of his life to Oceanside as a Police Officer, City Councilmember, and Mayor, passed away on May 16, 2026. Oceanside Crime Continues to Decline

New mid-year data shows that Oceanside has experienced a sustained decline in crime. Overall major crimes dropped 9% from 2024 to 2025, and a remarkable 30% since 2021, one of the largest four-year crime reductions among regional cities. Crimes against people fell 5% from the prior year, and crimes against society, (including drug and weapons offenses), dropped 11%, continuing a dramatic 69% decline since 2021. Full Report

 

City to Expand Homeless Outreach

Oceanside is launching HEART (Homeless Evaluation, Assistance & Response Team), a new civilian-led street outreach program approved by the City Council on May 20, 2026. A multidisciplinary team pairs social workers and behavioral health professionals to connect homeless residents to shelter and supportive services. Funded by Measure X, HEART will be guided by the principle that relationship-based outreach can produce improved outcomes. Details

Join us! The regular City Council meetings are held at 5 p.m. on June 3 and June 17, 2026, at Oceanside City Hall (300 N. Coast Highway). General Plan Update Coming June 24

Oceanside's General Plan Update, Climate Action Plan, and Smart & Sustainable Corridors Specific Plan are anticipated to be presented to the City Council at a Special Meeting on June 24 at 5 p.m. Together, these projects represent coordinated long-term planning for housing, mobility, and environmental stewardship. Provide Input on I-5 / SR 78 Plan

Caltrans and SANDAG held a community meeting May 13 to present options that aim to improve safety and traffic flow at the I-5 / SR-78 interchange. They are accepting public comments through Saturday, June 13, 2026. Independence Parade June 27

Get ready to line the streets for the MainStreet Oceanside Independence Parade on Saturday, June 27, 2026, at 10 a.m. along Coast Highway from Wisconsin Street to Civic Center. An Oceanside tradition, the parade is a tribute to our community spirit, hometown heroes, and our country's heritage. Oceanside USA 250 Festival June 27

Celebrate the nation’s 250th birthday at the beach right after the parade with live music, great food, local vendors, and plenty of family fun. The USA 250 Festival brings together families, military personnel, and visitors for an unforgettable day of entertainment and connection at the Junior Seau Beach Amphitheater from noon to 6 p.m. Visit event website

 

Save the Date: Fireworks July 3

The Oceanside Parks and Recreation Department will host an incredible fireworks and drone display on Friday, July 3, 2026, in celebration of Independence Day, America's Semiquincentennial, and the 138th anniversary of the City’s incorporation (July 3, 1888). 

The show will begin at 9 p.m. at the SoCal Soccer Complex at El Corazon. More

 
 

IRONMAN Generates Funds for Youth Recreation Scholarships

IRONMAN continues its tradition of giving back to the community by supporting recreation scholarships for Oceanside youth. Funds raised through registrations for the IRONKIDS race, combined with a matching donation from Visit Oceanside, resulted in a $3,000 contribution to Oceanside Parks & Recreation Scholarship Program. Major special events can create meaningful local impact well beyond race weekend.
