Crime Continues to Decrease

Oceanside continues to see significant progress in reducing crime across the city, with the recent countywide crime statistics report marking another year of positive trends. The most dramatic improvements have been seen in the 'crimes against society' category, which include narcotic violations, weapons law violations, and other offenses that impact community well-being. These types of crimes decreased by 55% from 2021 to 2024. More

 

Free Bike Education Course

The Oceanside Police Department invites you to a free Bike Education Course, for bicyclists young and old, on Saturday, Sept 20 at 9 a.m. at OPD Headquarters (3855 Mission Avenue). The class will cover both e-bike and pedal bike information, rules of the road, bike safety, and you'll get a chance to register your bike. RSVP via email or call 760-435-4835.

 

Resolving Encampments

Working jointly, Oceanside and Carlsbad received state funding to resolve a series of encampments along a 3.5 mile stretch of the Buena Vista Creek that borders our two cities. ​Since April, this effort ended homelessness for 54 people, which includes ongoing case management. The first zone was also cleared of tons of debris. The project team now moves to assist others in additional zones along the creek. Find out more

The next regular City Council meetings take place at 5 p.m. on September 3 and September 17 at City Hall (300 N. Coast Highway). Oceanside Shelter Updates

Next month, Interfaith Community Services (ICS) will assume operations at the City's Navigation Center. The facility will expand from 50 to 75 beds, prioritize Oceanside residents, provide assistance tailored to each person's unique needs, and focus on connecting people to long-term housing solutions. ICS will host an informational 'Q & A' session on September 10 from 5:30 –7:00 p.m. in the Civic Center Library Community Rooms (330 N. Coast Hwy.). Buena Vista Creek Habitat Restoration

Join us for a workshop on the Buena Vista Creek Habitat Restoration Project on September 23 at Salvation Army (3935 Lake Blvd) at 5:30 p.m. Learn about restoration plans for a section of the creek along Lake Boulevard near Thunder Drive, which aims to include trails, interpretive signage, seating, and an overall vision for a healthy riparian habitat. More

 

CERT Training to Begin

CERT, the Community Emergency Response Team, trains Oceanside residents who volunteer to provide immediate assistance in our community during a disaster or emergency. Join us for the next CERT Basic Academy, beginning September 20 and running once per week for four weeks. Details

Coastal Cleanup Day is Sept. 20

Join the Green Oceanside team for Coastal Cleanup Day on Saturday, September 20 from 9am to noon at multiple locations in Oceanside. This is one of the largest watershed cleanups events of the year. Pump Track Design Meeting Sept. 30

The City is designing a new 17-acre park at El Corazon that will feature a pump track—a 35,000-square-foot facility for biking/skating, a dog park, fields, and more. The city is seeking community input on two conceptual designs for the Pump Track, based on prior feedback. A meeting will be held to hear from you on Tuesday, September 30 at 6 PM at the El Corazon Senior Center (3480 Village Commercial Dr.), followed by an online survey for additional input. More

 

Oceanside Historical Society's New Home

The Oceanside Historical Society opened its new permanent home last week at 510 Civic Center Drive next to The Star Theatre. The Weese Oceanside History Center is named in honor of Robert & Bessie Weese. Robert Weese dedicated 40+ years to the City's Water Department and was known as "Mr. Water" for his expertise. The new center has 3,000+ sq. ft. of exhibits spanning 1880s-1980s and admission is free. Learn more

 

It's SURFtember in Oceanside

“Surftember” is a month-long celebration of surf culture, art, and community in Oceanside. Celebrate California Surfing Day (Sept. 20) with Super Girl Surf Pro, the world’s largest women’s surf and lifestyle festival, plus the launch of a dual-museum exhibit, Surf Art: Exploring California’s Coastal Culture.
