β | Historic Crown Heights Community Resource Center Set to Reopen | We're putting the finishing touches on a full rehabilitation of the Crown Heights Community Resource Center, a nearly century-old landmark built in 1931. The facility underwent a $5+ million transformation that will keep it standing strong and in service for generations to come. The renovated Center will officially reopen with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Saturday, August 15, at noon. Project Details | | | | Loma Alta Slough Wetlands Enhancement Project Underway | The City has begun an effort to restore 5.8 acres of habitat and reduce flooding at the Loma Alta Slough, a coastal wetland near the mouth of Loma Alta Creek in South Oceanside. The $6 million grant-funded project includes new marsh channels, restoration planting, a pedestrian pathway, an overlook area, ecological signage, and long-term monitoring. If approved by voters, the measure could fund priorities like restoring sandy beaches, expanding street repairs, and rebuilding aging infrastructure like the concrete Pier Bridge. Their program drops small grains of mosquito larvicide into areas known to breed mosquitoes. The larvicides are made from naturally-occurring bacteria that kill larvae, but don't harm people, pets, plants, or wildlife.
