Measure X Projects Update

The City is working with community organizations throughout Oceanside to partner on programs that feature a mentorship component with the goal of diverting Oceanside youth from engaging in gang and drug activity, which will enhance community safety and provide a pathway for brighter futures. Oceanside Shelter Now Open

The Oceanside Navigation Center officially opened in mid-August. This modernized facility is committed to providing a safe program focused on moving people experiencing homelessness towards permanent housing. Clients are referred by the City's Housing Department Social Workers, Homeless Outreach Team, and the San Diego Rescue Mission. Take a look inside the Navigation Center

High Speed Fiber Network Coming

A new project to install a high-speed fiber network through Oceanside will soon begin. The street installation work will be swift and managed in a way that will minimize disruption in neighborhoods. Once the network is complete, most properties in Oceanside will have access to gigabyte-speed internet service. After the installation, the company will sell fiber access to an internet service provider. This project does not require anyone to change their existing internet service, but will provide people with more, and higher-speed reliable choices. More information

RE:BEACH Oceanside Project

RE:BEACH is Oceanside's Coastal Resilience Competition, which is generating innovative solutions from coastal experts worldwide for the retention of sand along Oceanside's coast. The City held the first public workshop this week. Three teams presented an overview of initial project ideas. Thank you to all who participated! City Council Meetings

The next regular Council meetings occur on September 13 and September 27 at 5:00 p.m. All are welcome. The regular Council meetings are shown live on KOCT and replayed throughout the week. Evening Intersection Road Work

The intersection of Oceanside Boulevard and Coast Highway is scheduled for repairs on the evenings of September 6-7 between 7:00 p.m. and 7:00 a.m. Notifications are going out to area businesses and residents within 1,000 feet of the work area. A detour will be in place during the work hours. Thanks for your patience as we work to make these much-needed repairs! Map

Sustainable Corridors Specific Plan

A key component of the City’s General Plan Update is the Smart and Sustainable Corridors Specific Plan (SSCSP). This regulatory document will establish land use and development standards for properties within inland segments of the City’s major east/west commercial corridors (i.e., Mission Avenue, Oceanside Boulevard, and Vista Way). A draft of the SSCSP is nearing completion. The City’s Planning Division will make the draft SSCSP available for public review and will host an open house on the draft this fall. 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony

All are welcome to join in as Oceanside public safety personnel host a 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony at the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheater on Monday, September 11, 2023. The ceremony will be preceded by a procession beginning at the Civic Center fountain at 8:30 a.m. It's a ten-minute walk to the Amphitheater and all are welcome to join the walk or meet at the Amphitheater at 8:45 a.m. for the ceremony. Stay for refreshments afterwards!

Safe Cycling Classes Held Monthly

No-cost Safe Cycling classes are offered monthly in Oceanside. Certified instructors share a wealth of knowledge and ensure people leave feeling comfortable riding on the road and know the rules of traffic. The Smart Cycling sessions include a both a classroom and a road session. The E-Biker class is one three-hour lesson. The classes meet at the Oceanside Public Library. Learn more and register! Regional Plan Workshop Sept 13

Share your input! Join SANDAG to learn about transportation projects and programs coming to our area in the short-term, and share what transportation options would make it easier for you to move around the San Diego region in the long-term. California Surfing Day Sept 20

September 20 is recognized as "California Surfing Day." Visit Oceanside honors Oceanside as an "O’riginal surf town" through its support of world-class surf events like the upcoming SuperGirl Pro and US Adaptive Surf Championships. They also support the history, culture, and future of surfing through the sale of California Surfing Day t-shirts, with all proceeds donated to Oceanside’s California Surf Museum. Taste of Oceanside Returns Oct 7

Stroll around the downtown - or take the Taste Trolley - and nibble tantalizing food samples along the way. This fun and absolutely delicious event is limited to 1,000 tickets and has sold out three years in a row! See participating businesses and get the details and tickets.

Oceanside Unified School District News

As part of an educator exchange program, OUSD welcomed two teachers from Fuji City, Japan--one of Oceanside's Sister Cities. The Japanese educators visited the district for two weeks.This opportunity offered an exchange of experiences and professional skills in the classroom. The guest teachers observed and shadowed teachers at King Middle School and Palmquist Elementary. More information
