New El Corazon Park Planning | The El Corazon Specific Plan includes nine park sites at the City property in the heart of Oceanside. Park Site 1 will be the first park area to be developed, and public input is being collected on concepts and design options. A recommended option will be brought to the Parks and Recreation Commission, and then to the City Council for review and approval. We'd love your input! Police Chief Fred Armijo to Retire | After 34 years of public safety service in Oceanside, including 29 years in law enforcement, Police Chief Fred Armijo announced he's retiring on April 1, 2023. Chief Armijo has worked for the City of Oceanside since April 1989, starting as a Lifeguard. He transitioned to the Police Department in 1993, starting his career as a recruit, then a sworn police officer, and eventually working through the ranks as Sergeant, Lieutenant, Captain, and Police Chief. Crown Heights Resource Center Project | The City has embarked on a project to rehabilitate the Crown Heights Community Resource Center, located at 1210 Division Street in Oceanside behind Oceanside High School. The facility is a historic and unique domed structure built nearly a century ago in 1931, designed by renowned architect Irving J. Gill. Community Meeting on New Police HQ | Another Measure X-funded project has kicked off. Join us for the first community meeting on a proposed new police headquarters project. This in-person meeting will take place on Wednesday, March 15 at 6:00 p.m. at the El Corazon Event Center, located at 3306 Senior Center Drive. The purpose of the meeting is to answer your questions and gather your input. Staff and the project architect will be present to provide an overview of the proposed facility. More information | |

New City Website Launched | The City launched a re-engineered website that is mobile-friendly, highly searchable, and accessible to all. The new site has a fresh look and feel and a functional mobile design, all of which are a part of our ongoing efforts to enhance the quality and availability of information and resources. The new homepage is organized with you in mind, and you'll see a "service finder" bar front and center to quickly get you to the information you need. Other key features include easy to find issue reporting, online services, news, and events. If you had saved bookmarks to specific pages, you'll need to recreate them. 'Food Scraps to Energy' Project | The City received a $4.2 million grant from the State to fund a project that would locally produce renewable energy from food scraps collected throughout Oceanside. A Food Scraps to Energy Project is planned to be located at the northeast area of the Oceanside's San Luis Rey Water Reclamation Facility. Learn more about this project that aims to reduce the food scraps in landfills, meet State targets, and create biogas -- an environmentally friendly, renewable energy source. Details | |

Tree Planting Celebration...Join Us March 4 | The Oceanside Public Works Department invites you to celebrate Arbor Day with a tree-planting celebration on Saturday, March 4 between 8:00 and 11:00 a.m. at Mance Buchanon Park (425 College Blvd). US Navy Band to Perform at Pier March 25 | Please join us for a free performance by the U.S. Navy Band Sea Chanters Chorus on March 25 at 6:00 p.m. at the Junior Seau Pier Amphitheater. The Sea Chanters will perform a variety of music including traditional choral works, sea chanteys, opera, Broadway, contemporary music, and patriotic selections. Oceanside Unified School District News | Laurel Elementary School got a fresh new look over winter recess. The campus exterior was painted in bold colors. When you walk onto campus, you will notice the brilliant red accent used for the updated welcome sign, front office wall and roofing edge. The doors throughout are a darker shade of blue which pairs well with the clean beige walls. The exterior fence was repainted white to give the school a beautiful, updated look. Laurel Elementary staff selected this color palette for their school. | |
