New City Manager Appointed

The City Council selected Jonathan Borrego to serve as Oceanside's next City Manager. Mr. Borrego has 34 years of experience in municipal government, and has been with the City of Oceanside for five years, initially hired as the City’s Development Services Director, promoted to the Deputy City Manager position in 2019, and subsequently named Interim City Manager in March 2022.  Details

Oceanside Homeless Shelter Update

To address the challenges of homelessness and to mitigate community impacts, the City is preparing for its first year-round shelter. A property was purchased, construction costs were approved, and an operating agreement was signed with the San Diego Rescue Mission for the "Oceanside Navigation Center" at the centrally-located 3131 Oceanside Boulevard property.  Property improvements are underway; internal construction is progress, and site furnishings have begun to arrive. Construction is expected to be complete around the end of the year. More info

City Awarded $9.9M for Pure Water Project

The U.S. Department of the Interior announced they are recommending a $9.9 million grant award for construction of the Pure Water Oceanside project. Rep. Mike Levin was instrumental in securing this funding. The funding will be awarded via the Bureau of Reclamation’s WaterSMART: Title XVI WIIN Water Reclamation and Reuse Projects funding opportunity.  Details

Buccaneer Beach Closed Sept. 6-7

Buccaneer Beach in South Oceanside will be temporarily closed on Tuesday, September 6 and Wednesday, September 7 as we place compatible beach sand on the upper/back portion of the beach to replace sand that has eroded. The import of sand will involve heavy trucks and equipment. Please note, access to the ocean can still occur via access paths to the north and south of Buccaneer Beach.  More information on coastal management

El Corazon Park Site 1 Meeting

The Oceanside City Council approved an agreement with Schmidt Design Group to design El Corazon’s Park Site 1. Park Site 1 will be a 17-acre public park near the northwestern corner of Rancho Del Oro and El Corazon Drive. Community input is requested at an online meeting September 19 at 6:00 p.m. to ensure this park will meet your recreational needs. Community input will be incorporated into concept plans which will be presented at a future meeting for community review. More info

City Council meetings are open to all. The next meetings occur on September 14 and September 28 at 5:00 p.m. Regular Council meetings are shown live on KOCT and replayed throughout the week. The Affordable Connectivity Program is helping millions of eligible households throughout the U.S. save hundreds of dollars on home Internet. This federally funded initiative offers qualified households a $30 monthly discount on home Internet and a one-time discount of up to $100 for a computer or a tablet. Free Compost & Mulch for Residents

Feed your yard and improve your soil and plant growth! The City of Oceanside provides free high-quality organic compost and mulch for Oceanside residents at the El Corazon Compost Facility. Please bring a container, shovel, and proof of Oceanside residency. On occasion, compost tea is available as well.  Details and Hours

General Plan Update Open House Events

Drawing on community input, technical studies, and state and regional guidance, the City’s Planning Division is drafting detailed outlines of the various elements of the City's General Plan. In October, Planners will host two Open House events for you to review and comment on these drafts. The Open Houses will feature staffed stations where participants can engage the project team in one-on-one discussions. Input received will inform revisions to the draft goals and policies as well as the development of implementing actions. Details
