As the Church celebrates the Octave of Pentecost, here is a reflection from St Oscar Romero about the eternal challenge of the coming of the Spirit in the life of the community of believers:

It will always be Pentecost in the Church, provided the Church lets the beauty of the Holy Spirit shine forth from her countenance. When the Church ceases to let her strength rest on the power from above – which Christ promised her and which he gave her on that day – and when the Church leans rather on the weak forces of the power or wealth of this earth, then the Church ceases to be newsworthy. The Church will be fair to see, perennially young, attractive in every age, as long as she is faithful to the Spirit that floods her and she reflects that Spirit through her communities, through her pastors, through her very life. St Oscar Romero from "The Violence of Love" (Orbis, 2004)
An update on the Ukrainian family we have been able to assist.
Due to the kindness of a parishioner a Ukrainian mother and her two youngest sons have been able to find a place to live in Brooklyn. Given the generosity of two others they have been put in touch with some legal help to assist with immigration status. A third has coordinated all this and begun to set the family up in their new setting. Because they lack full legal status the mother is unable to work and so a fund has been set up to provide them with resources. If you would like to assist, please go to:

Please pray for the family. The husband, father-in-law and eldest son are in Ukraine helping to defend their homeland.

The Body of Christ
St. Augustine (354-430)
Since you are the Body of Christ and his members,
It is your mystery that is placed on the Lord’s table,
It is your mystery that you receive.
You hear the words: The Body of Christ,
And you answer: Amen.
Be therefore members of Christ,
That your Amen may be true....
If you have received well,
You are that which you have receive.
