Does the Bible teach purgatory?
Do some Christians undergo purification from the stain of sin between death and entrance into heaven? Many who answer "yes" to that question embrace the doctrine of purgatory. Simply stated, purgatory is a place or state of suffering where the dead bound for heaven achieve the holiness necessary to enter the presence of God. But does the Bible teach this?

Heaven can't wait: more on purgatory
Perhaps the strongest argument against the doctrine of purgatory is that it undermines the sufficiency of Christ. Jesus' declaration from the cross, "It is finished!" means, among other things, that the work of redemption is complete and no more sacrifice for sin is required.

The Holy Spirit's intimate relationship
As both personal and divine, the Holy Spirit enjoys an intimate, eternal relationship with the Father and the Son. Further, the fellowship believers experience as a result of the indwelling Spirit is a taste of the supernatural unity that has always existed among the members of the Trinity.

Is heaven our final home?
The New Testament teaches that, upon death, believers' souls / spirits separate from our lifeless bodies and enter the presence of God in heaven. There, we enjoy intimate fellowship with Jesus while waiting for the future resurrection and glorification of our bodies.
