TRUSTEES CORNER

Welcome to fall! We hope you will take some time to get outdoors on our beautiful trails and enjoy what Mother Nature has to offer as the leaves change colors.

During the past several months, the Trustees, in conjunction with the Lake County Township Association (LCTA), have been working on long term plans to ensure adequate police protection throughout our Township. Currently, we are under contract with the Lake County Sheriff’s Office to have nine deputies patrol our area. One of these deputies is funded through a grant from Lake County and that grant will run through 2024. It is the Trustees intent to maintain our current level of police protection beyond the life of the grant.

On September 22nd, the LCTA gave a presentation to the Lake County Commissioners in order to identify some key concerns regarding emergency deputies. You can view the presentation by watching the September 22, 2022 Commissioner’s meeting.  View the meeting video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d2TWi902CNU.

Carl Dondorfer commented, “We need to work together on the issue [of obtaining additional law enforcement] to sustain our safety forces into the future and keep our community safe.” Morgan McIntosh added, “Now is a good time to address how we can work together on this.”  Sheriff Frank Leonbruno stated, “Investing in criminal justice makes a safe community.” A subsequent meeting is expected to be scheduled with the LCTA, the Lake County Commissioners, Sheriff and Concord Township Trustees. We will keep the community updated on the progress of this initiative which will benefit the safety of our community.

As many of you are aware, Debra Esker, our Recreation Director, is leaving us. This leaves a tremendous void in our Recreation Department but we are very confident that our current Recreation staff will continue to provide excellent service to our community. We wish Deb all the best in her future endeavors. Since she is a Township resident, I’m sure we will see her out and about in the community.

FIRE DEPARTMENT

Fire Prevention Week

This year marks the 100th anniversary of the National Fire Prevention Associations’ (NFPA) Fire Prevention Week. Fire Prevention week is the longest-running public health observance in our country.

Today’s homes burn faster than ever. According to the NFPA, you may have as little as 2 minutes (or even less time) to safely escape a home fire from the time the smoke alarm sounds. Your ability to get out of a home during a fire depends on early warning from smoke alarms and advance planning.

The fire department continues to offer assistance with smoke alarm placement and installation. Just give us a call at 440-354-7504 or email smokealarms@concordtwp.com.

Need help planning your escape? We have resources available to assist. Visit our fire education webpage: https://concordtwp.com/departments/fire/fire-education/

CPR

We still have openings for our Thursday November 3rd 5:00 pm American Heart Association Heartsaver® CPR class at the Concord Community Center.

Reserve your seat by emailing mbiddell@concordtwp.com

Additional classes will be held on March 2, July 10 and November 6, 2023
