October snuck up on us and we are beginning to see the amber, auburn and crimson colors of this beautiful season in our community. We wanted to remind residents to join us for of our stakeholders meeting scheduled for Tuesday, October 3rd , 2023 at 6:00 PM at the Concord Community Center located at 7671 Auburn Road. Trustees will discuss the safety services replacement levy on the ballot for the November 7th election. Residents will have the opportunity to hear from Trustees, the Administrator and Fiscal Officer about what the levy includes and the reasoning and the need for funding. The fire department and sheriffs department will also be on hand at the stakeholder meetings to answer residents’ questions.
The replacement levy for Safety Services, on the ballot as Issue 3, directly funds both police and fire services in Concord Township. Presently, the amount of funds collected by the levy are not adequate to support the rising cost of these services in Concord Township.
The last levy increase supporting safety forces in Concord was approved by voters eight years ago during the 2015 election. Since then, the demands on both law enforcement as provided by the Lake County Sheriff’s Department and Concord Township Fire Department (CTFD) have continued to increase as our community continues to grow.
The current funding for both the policing contract with the Lake County Sheriff Department and the budget for the Concord Township Fire Department via the Safety Forces Levy, 4.0 mils, is inadequate to continue funding these necessary safety forces at the current levels.
“We hope to see residents at the meeting on October 3rd, to discuss and communicate the needs our township is facing regarding the safety and security of our community,” said Morgan McIntosh, Trustee.
