A Note from Andres

Happy Friday, Mason District,

With personal property taxes due on October 5th, please remember that you can pay your taxes in person at the Mason District Governmental Center via our new Tax Kiosk that operates 24/7, including this weekend.

Here's a few helpful reminders:

  • If you're paying with cash: the tax kiosk does not accept or return coin change, therefore your amount due will be rounded down to the nearest dollar.
  • If you're paying with a check: when you insert your check, the machine will take an image of your check and return it to you - it does not keep it.
  • If you're paying with a credit or debit card: please be aware that there is a 2.35% processing fee.

Additionally, while early voting for the November 3rd General Election is already underway in Fairfax County (see locations here), starting on October 22nd, you'll be able to early vote in-person at the Mason District Governmental Center.

As always, thank you for staying engaged and connected with our community.

If my office can be of assistance, please reach out at Mason@fairfaxcounty.gov or call our main line at 703‑256‑7717.

Sincerely,

Andres Jimenez

Around the District with Supervisor Jimenez

Our First Mason PTA Roundtable

Listening First: Mason District's First-Ever PTA Roundtable

Strong schools are built by strong communities, and our PTAs are at the heart of that work. That's why I was proud to host the first-ever Mason District PTA Roundtable, bringing together PTA presidents and representatives from Fairfax County Public Schools across Mason District.

I wanted to hear directly from the parents and volunteers who give so much of their time and energy about what is working, where they need support, and what challenges they're facing. I also shared how my office can support their needs by either connecting them with county resources or filling gaps through the use of public-private partnerships.

To every PTA leader who joined the conversation, thank you for your commitment to our students, families, and educators.

If your PTA would like to connect with my office, please reach out at to me via email: Mason@fairfaxcounty.gov

Commonwealth Coffee for Hispanic Heritage Month

Strengthening Mason District Through Federal Partnerships

Local government leaders are made stronger by the relationships we build with our federal partners. When we work together, our community feels the difference.

Recently, I had the privilege of joining Senators Mark Warner and Tim Kaine at a Commonwealth Coffee honoring Hispanic Heritage Month. Many Mason District community leaders joined us, and it was a meaningful opportunity to celebrate the culture, contributions, and resilience of our Hispanic and Latino neighbors, who help make Mason District the vibrant, welcoming place it is.

Thank you to Senator Warner and Senator Kaine for showing up and for your continued support of Mason District. Our community is better for it!

Woodburn Elementary School's Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration!

Celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month at Woodburn Elementary

Thank you to the Woodburn Elementary School PTSA for inviting me to their 2nd Annual Hispanic Heritage Month Celebration! It was a joy to spend the evening with students, families, and educators who came together to share their traditions, food, music, and pride in their heritage.

Events like this show what makes Mason District special: neighbors from various backgrounds building community and a school community that values every student's story. Congratulations to the PTSA volunteers and Woodburn staff for creating such a warm, welcoming celebration, and I look forward to seeing it grow in the years to come.

A Tour of Food for Others

Fighting Hunger in Mason District

I was happy to visit Food for Others and meet with Executive Director Deb Haynes to learn more about the organization's work. More than 105,000 people in Fairfax County are experiencing food insecurity, and many of our neighbors are struggling with the rising costs of food, housing, and healthcare. For 30 years, Food for Others has been a vital part of Northern Virginia's safety net.

Food for Others serves near 3,000 families and 3,900 students each week. Through their Power Pack Program, weekend meal packs go to Fairfax County Public Schools students experiencing food insecurity, across 47 schools. Thank you to Deb and the entire Food for Others team and volunteers for the work you do and for the warm welcome.

How you can help:

  • Donate food. Donations are accepted at the Merrifield warehouse (2938 Prosperity Ave.) Monday through Friday, preferably between 2:00 and 5:00 pm, at loading dock 2.
  • Support the Power Pack Program. You can donate completed packs or P3-specific food items, or give through their Amazon P3 Wishlist: Amazon.com
  • Host a food drive or volunteer. Email volunteer@foodforothers.org or visit foodforothers.org.

Mason Milestones

As Supervisor of Mason District, I take tremendous pride in listening to community voices, voting on actions that better Mason District, and making sure that YOU hear about it.

In this new section of the Mason Matters newsletter, I'd like to share some "milestones" that are being accomplished right here in Mason.

If you have any projects or groups you'd like to nominate for this segment, please send them to my office via email Mason@fairfaxcounty.gov or call our main line at 703‑256‑7717!

Speed Bumps Approved for Philip Road

At this week's Fairfax County Board of Supervisors meeting, I moved to approve two speed humps on Philip Road, and the Board gave its full support. The county will now schedule installation as soon as possible, making Philip Road safer for everyone who walks, bikes, and drives there.

Here's how it worked: the Brook Hills Citizens Association expressed their concerns to my office, county transportation staff studied the road, and residents in the area voted to support the plan. Thank you to the Philip Road neighbors for making your voices heard and to Fairfax County Department of Transportation for their work on this.

Route 29 Active Transportation Study Public Meeting on Oct. 14

The Fairfax County Department of Transportation (FCDOT) will present recommended improvements to sidewalks, bike paths, transit stops and crossings located on Route 29 between I-495 and Tripps Run at the Falls Church City border, just east of South Maple Ave, at an in-person public meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 14, 2026, at 7 p.m., in the cafeteria of Timber Lane Elementary School, 2737 West Street, Falls Church.

Following the presentation at approximately 7:30 p.m., residents and commuters will have the opportunity to review exhibit boards, ask questions and provide comments. An online survey will be available close to the meeting in October.

FCDOT held an initial community workshop in November 2025 to discuss existing corridor conditions. A second public meeting took place in May 2026 to present a range of proposed alternatives, and the October 2026 recommendations are based on feedback received at the May meeting.

Increasing Tree Canopy in Areas of Greatest Need

Fairfax County Offers Free Trees to Community Organizations

Community-based organizations in Fairfax County can apply to receive free trees for planting on private properties in the fall, through a program by Fairfax County’s Urban and Community Forestry Division (UCFD) of the Department of Public Works and Environmental Services (DPWES).

The “Free Trees to Community Organizations” program, offered in partnership with Casey Trees, is designed to help community organizations in Fairfax County – such as volunteer groups, civic associations and faith-based organizations – obtain high-quality, professionally grown trees suitable for planting. Purchasing top-quality trees can be a challenge for these organizations.

UCFD will prioritize applications for tree-planting sites within or adjacent to Fairfax County-designated highly vulnerable communities, as defined by the county’s One Fairfax policy and its associated Vulnerability Index. While planting in highly vulnerable communities will be prioritized, all community organizations are encouraged to apply for tree delivery, regardless of where tree planting is proposed.

The costs of the trees and delivery are covered by the county’s Tree Preservation and Planting Fund and will be offered at no cost to participating organizations.

Applications for the Fall 2026 planting season are due by October 30. APPLY HERE!
