Winning Works of Art Promote River Sweep!
ORSANCO holds an annual poster contest for students in grades K-12 to promote the Ohio River Sweep. Student art is chosen based on the theme of pollution awareness and stewardship of the river. This year, the Grand Prize Winner was Nick Boczek from Immaculate Heart of Mary School in Burlington, KY. His artwork will be displayed on the 2017 River Sweep poster. The T-shirt design winner was Abbigail DiBiaso from West Union High School in West Union, OH. Her artwork will be used as the T-shirt design for all 2017 River Sweep shirts. Prizes were also awarded to 13 other students, one from each grade level. A complete list of winners and their river art is available on the Ohio River Sweep webpage. For more information, including details on how to volunteer for the 2017 River Sweep event on June 17th, check out River Sweep on ORSANCO's website at www.orsanco.org.
Floating Books? Sort of. It's ORSANCO's Library!!
What was the water quality of the Ohio River in the 1950's? You can find out! Since 1948, ORSANCO has published reports on the water quality of the Ohio River. These historical reports were previously available by request, but you can now view the entire collection electronically at the ORSANCO library on our website. Happy reading, and enjoy your trip as you discover lots of great articles and other facts about this great natural resource we call the Ohio River!
Whoa! What is in your Ohio River Pool??
ORSANCO biologists recently assessed their data from pool surveys from the summer of 2015. Each year, three Ohio River pools are surveyed, and all three pools surveyed during the 2015 field season were in a "healthy" condition based on fish and macroinvertebrate surveys. That's some fresh water! For the complete report, check out the 2015 Pool Results on ORSANCO's website.
