MESSAGE FROM THE DEAN
Dear Colleagues:
Last month, our college celebrated the graduation of the dental and dental hygiene classes of 2022. Some of our constituents have wanted to know more about those graduates who are now our newest colleagues. I will share with you some of the information I've passed along to others, and I believe it will make you feel proud!
It goes without saying that our college's dental (DDS) and dental hygiene (DHY) programs are highly competitive. This is demonstrated by a number of factors, including the Grade Point Average (GPA) for each class as they enter and graduate from our programs.
When the members of the DDS class of 2022 first joined our college, the overall average GPA of the120 students who entered the program was 3.61. Similarly, the DHY class of 2022 was comprised of 32 students whose average GPA at graduation was 3.56. This shows the high caliber of the newly graduated students who are now members of the dental workforce.
The composition of our student bodies is evolving. The DDS class of 2022 had more women than men -- 61 versus 50. There were nine students from underrepresented groups; 104 students from Ohio and 16 from other states; and 12 "first generation" students who were the first members of their families to graduate from college. The DHY class of 2022 included two men and 30 women; five students from underrepresented groups; and nine “first generation” students. Of the 32 students in the class, 29 were from Ohio and three came from other states.
As dean, I make it a point to be well-informed about our students and their progress as they complete our DDS and DHY programs and begin their careers as dental professionals. When I see statistics like these, it’s clear to me that we are recruiting and graduating talented, hard-working students whose contributions to the dental profession will set the highest standards.
I hope you feel as pleased and proud as I do!
Sincerely,
Dean Carroll Ann Trotman
