Messages From The Mountain

Happy First Sunday in Lent. Lent is a season where we commemorate the 40 days Jesus Christ spent fasting in the desert and enduring temptation. As followers of Jesus, Christians all over the world are fasting and further developing spiritual practices that bring them into a deeper relationship with God, neighbor, and themselves. Our Lenten worship series is called The Old, Old Story. Throughout the next several weeks, we will do a hopscotch from Genesis with Adam and Eve all the way to the resurrection of Jesus on Easter morning. We will explore some of the pivotal turning points in scripture that shape the larger biblical story of love, restoration, and peace. Chapter One of the old, old story is the birth of a problem. We begin with the story of sin entering the world. The story of Adam and Eve presents some uncomfortable truths about all of humanity, but these truths also help us discover a God whose love not only covers a multitude of sin, but offers a path towards forgiveness and grace. Let us worship the God who can reach down to grab us, no matter how far we fall.

This Sunday's scripture comes from Matthew 7

Lenten Bible Study

All are welcome to join a 6-week Bible Study, led by Rev. Mary Bullis. This Lenten study will meet on Zoom on Wednesdays at 7:00 pm, beginning on March 1.

We will examine the seven last words that Jesus spoke from the cross, words that show his deepest love for humanity. As we study his words, we will experience the intimate and divine awe that is only available to those of us willing to come near the reality of the cross.

The study will use the book by Rev. Susan Robb, Seven Words: Listening to Christ From the Cross, available on Amazon or Cokesbury. However, you do not need to have to book to attend the class.
