The Mission of Olivewood Gardens and Learning Center is to inspire youth and adults to be healthy and active citizens through organic gardening, environmental stewardship, and nutrition education. This Quarterly Newsletter spotlights the support & direct impact of our collective work together.
Where the Garden Meets the Classroom
Learning doesn't just happen in the classroom; and Olivewood believes in connecting the natural world to all of our standards-based curriculum. Thanks to our intensive partnerships with National School District and Healthy Day Partners, we have been able to reactivate all 10 school garden sites at NSD schools!

With our hard-working, school-based Environmental Education Specialists, Kelsey and Sabrina, and
School Garden Specialist, Alyssa, Olivewood will host three garden science and nutrition lessons to all TK-6th grade students using these
outdoor classrooms
throughout the school year.

We are uplifting gardens as essential places for learning - not only to support standards-based education, but also life skills like growing food, preparing healthy meals, and connecting with nature!
We want to thank you & our passionate community of
volunteers, interns, staff, and community partners who
make this work possible!

Garden 2 Kitchen: Youth Leaders in the Community
Last month we hit the ground running with our first of two sessions of high schoolers for Olivewood's Garden-2-Kitchen Internship! In this leadership and skill-building program, interns learn about cooking and nutrition, urban agriculture, job skills, and more!

Students toured the garden and harvested veggies to be used in the kitchen. They learned basic knife skills and made hummus in the kitchen, while taking home veggies to practice at home with their families!

We can't wait to see what these incredible youth leaders bring to our community!

San Diego Welcomes MEHKOs!
Microenterprise Home Kitchen Operations allow people to run their food businesses from commercial home kitchens. Thanks to the tremendous efforts of the
SD MEHKO Coalition and overwhelming community support, the San Diego Board of Supervisors is allowing the operation of MEHKOs this month!

This is an amazing opportunity for local entrepreneurs and a step towards an equitable food system!
