Leadership Transition

Olympia Tumwater Foundation Welcomes New Executive Director

On December 16, Todd Cutts stepped into the role of Executive Director for the Olympia Tumwater Foundation, succeeding John Freedman, who retired after 12 years of dedicated leadership.

Cutts brings extensive experience in both nonprofit administration and local government. He previously served as Executive Director of the Olympia Downtown Alliance and as City Manager for SeaTac. His background also includes managing economic development programs in Denver, Long Beach (CA), and SeaTac, focusing on downtown revitalization and strategic growth.

As he takes the helm, Cutts’ priorities include securing funding for the planned History and Nature Center at Brewery Park, refining the Foundation’s strategic vision, and continuing to oversee its remarkable programs and assets.

He looks forward to connecting with Foundation stakeholders and can be reached at tcutts@olytumfoundation.org.

February History Talk — Whatever Happened to Ambrose Asher?

Family stories indicate that young Ambrose Asher was captured by Indians in the 1860s, with his parents’ fate unknown. While the family story was not correct in detail, it provided enough information to discover the truth through genealogical and historical research of the Plains Indian Wars. The story provides a prelude to the Sand Creek Massacre in late 1864 and later events of the Plains Indian Wars. Speaker Dave Welch, a descendant of Ambrose Asher, is a long-time member and officer of the Oregon-California Trails Association.

Cline's Family Liquor Store

Taken in 1913, this photo shows Cline's Family Liquor Store advertising Olympia Beer. Although the photo is labeled as being from Raymond, Washington, this is probably from Aberdeen instead. If you can confirm this, please contact Karen at karen@olytumfoundation.org.
