Winter 2019
A Positive Impact
As we prepare to celebrate the upcoming holiday season with our loved ones, on behalf of our dedicated and hardworking staff, I would like to take a moment to show my gratitude to you, our dedicated volunteers, donors, and community members. Without you, our work would not be possible. The work of changing lives and creating emotionally and physically healthier people. With your support, demonstrated in your own unique ways this year; we have been able to positively impact the lives of nearly 13,000 individuals and families in need.

And when we say “impacted lives”, we mean it. At Jewish Family Service of Greater Dallas, we define our success not only by how many people we help but in HOW we help them. We don’t just solve the problem at hand, we take whatever time is needed, connect clients to all the resources needed and get to the root of the issue. This is why people we help don’t just get better……they ARE better. Better in school. Better parents. Better members of the community.

All of our combined efforts result in a stronger, healthier community.

And this dream becomes a reality for so many, and it all began with YOU.

From the entire JFS family, Happy Holidays!

Sincerely,

Cathy Barker
Chief Executive Officer

These informal, non-solicitation events are an opportunity for new friends to get introduced to our programs and services. Both sessions will consist of a quick presentation about who we are and what we do, followed by Q&A and a tour. Agency supporters are welcome to join, we just ask that you bring new friends along, too!

Program Highlight: PLAN @ 1121 Rock
Last year, our PLAN Clubhouse, known as PLAN @ 1121 Rock, became the first accredited Clubhouse in Dallas!  Since we were relatively new, our Clubhouse International accreditation was a one-year provisional accreditation— meaning that we had several milestones we had to meet before being approved to receive the full three-year accreditation. Accreditation is an extremely rigorous process whereby we need to show evidence that we are abiding by the 37 Clubhouse International Standards. Good news - we recently got word that we were approved through October 2021!

PLAN @ 1121 Rock offers a work-ordered day for those with severe and persistent mental illness, with emphasis on sharing meaningful work and relationships. Members and staff run the clubhouse side by side, lift each other up and help each other to realize our individual dreams. It is not a treatment center. Rather, it is a launch pad to find a better life.
For family members, it is a place where we know our loved ones will find opportunities to engage in community and grow in independence.

Interested in being involved? There are daily PLAN volunteer opportunities under "work-ordered day" Click here to sign up.
High School Summer Internship Opportunities
Do you know a high school student looking for a meaningful summer internship? The application for our Klein Summer Internship program will be available on January 1, 2020. More information to come!

About the Program:
The Klein Summer Internship is a 180-hour, six week long internship over the summer that gives high school students, ages 16 to 18 years old, the opportunity to see what it’s like to work at a nonprofit. Interns are chosen through a competitive process involving a written application and in-person interview. All students are selected based on merit—without regard to religion, race, or ethnicity. Selected students will be assigned to one of ~20 DFW area nonprofits through a mutual selection process. The program will culminate with each intern receiving a certificate reflecting their participation and service to the Dallas community and, upon completion of hours, the President’s Volunteer Service Award.
