Spring 2018
New and Improved
At JFS, everything we do is with intention. Whether it’s implementing best practice standards for our programs, expanding existing services or rebooting fundraisers, there is careful thought, discussion and planning that takes place. As “An Open Door to All in Need,” regardless of race, religion, ethnicity or ability to pay, we open our doors annually to over 13,000 clients across our five major programs and complementary continuum of wraparound care.

Now, we want to share our Open Door with you in a new way. With the same intention that guides our services, we are pleased to present the new and improved JFS eNews- The Open Door. We hope that The Open Door provides the insights and updates for our agency that will keep you
engaged, educated and excited about our plans and our progress. With a quarterly calendar, The Open Door will highlight the major happenings at JFS, with QuickLinks allowing you customized access to the day-to-day services, workshops, groups and activities that are at the core of our agency.

We hope you enjoy The Open Door and look forward to your readership in the future.

Warmly,

Steve Banta
Chief Executive Officer

More Upgrades in store at JFS
In Fall 2017, we painted all the walls at our main office, added new carpet, updated the reception area and Food Pantry waiting room. We also built out four new offices to maximize space for new staff. But the "refresh" doesn't stop there!

Thanks to the recommendation of our City Council member, Lee Kleinman, the Apartment Association of Greater Dallas (AAGD) is going to undertake some important upgrades at our main office location off Montfort and Arapaho.

Projects include renovations to the Food Pantry, staff and volunteer break room, flooring, and adding building safety precautions. Stay tuned for pictures over the next few months. We can't wait to unveil the new and improved JFS to our supporters!
Thank you for Celebrating
Special Needs Awareness Month!
February was Special Needs Awareness Month and with the help of Temple Emanu-El, Young Mens Service League, Edwards and Associates, and wonderful volunteers -- we were able to create two Special Needs Sensory Cubes! They will be used in play therapy as well as for trainings. Check out this great video to see the final product!
Transitional Housing Update
We have placed 10 families into apartments as a part of the new Transitional Housing Program. This supports victims of crime with up to 18 months of housing combined with our other comprehensive services. The program was established following the best-practice “Housing First” Transitional Housing model for victims experiencing physical, emotional or sexual abuse with the goal for victims to be able to transition to safe, more self-sufficient lives. Thank you to our dedicated staff and volunteers who got this program up and running in record time!
Volunteer Appreciation
In 2017, our 1,446 volunteers served a total of 19,677 hours, which is an estimated total cost savings of $495,000 for the agency.

Thank you again to Co-Chairs Gilian Baron and Melanie Rubin.
