Week of December 10-14, 2018
"'Tis the time to expect miracles. . ."
Dear Southern Door Community,

If your house is like ours, this season brings all those movies that we have come to know and love, like "It's A Wonderful Life," "Miracle on 34th Street", "Hallmark Holiday movies" and of course your own family traditions. These annual events usually confirm our need to believe that "miracles are possible" and yes, within our reach. The dictionary says that a "miracle" can be a wonderful occurrence that "beats the odds" or "something of great and unusual value." Working in a school allows us, as educators, to witness miracles every day! It is a place of ordinary students, staff, and volunteers who do extraordinary things which "make a difference" in the lives of others.

We know that at this time of year, many of you have your own special outreaches as a family, in your workplaces, or your churches to help those in need. If you would like to consider supporting some of our projects here at school, we have the following happening right now: the middle school food drive for the Maplewood Pantry; donating some "treasures" to the Winter Eagles' Nest Store (see article below); donating to the fund at Nicolet Bank set up for the DuBois/McIntyre family who lost their home in a fire around Thanksgiving; or purchasing items from the school tree to help some of our families in need. Just connect with one of our offices to get more information on how to help, because as a Southern Door community, we are there for each other and We Are Eagle Strong!

First Referendum Project Meeting
It was very exciting this week as the administrative team sat down with the consultants from Bray Architects and Miron Construction to begin the official planning for the approved November referendums. After a review of the proposed projects, the group discussed the next steps in the planning process going forward, including timelines, bid processes, and construction parameters. The group will be meeting every two weeks from now until all projects are completed.
Eagles' Nest Winter Store Needs Items and Volunteers
Southern Door Elementary School is looking for volunteers and donations to assist with the Winter Eagle’s Nest Store. Students visit the store and use BEAK tickets that they have earned for following the Eagle Proud, Eagle Strong behavior expectations at school to “purchase” up to two gifts for caring adults in their lives.

We are accepting donations of new/gently used, gifts for men and women. Items could include: lotions, sports items, knick-knacks, jewelry, gloves, scarves, coffee mugs, small tools, craft items, candles, gift bags, tissue paper, small boxes, gift tags, and any other small size gift items. Donations can be dropped off at the elementary/middle school office during school hours from now until December 13.

On December 10-14, volunteers are needed to set up the store in the Media Center of the Elementary School. Set-up involves sorting items, displaying gifts on tables, and pricing them with a colored sticker.

On December 17 and 18, students will shop for gifts and volunteers are needed on both of those days to help students wrap the gifts they “purchase.” Southern Door conducts background checks on all volunteers and if you don't have one filled out for this year, it can be found at this link or contact the school office. If interested in helping, please contact school counselor, Mrs. Amy Marler at (920) 825-7321, x1114 or amarler@southerndoor.k12.wi.us .
FIRE UP. FOCUS.
FINISH.
