"Gratitude makes sense of our past, brings peace for today,
and creates a vision for tomorrow." Melody Beattie
Dear Southern Door Community,

This is the time of year when we are all reminded to be more grateful for the gift of "each new day." William Arthur Ward says that gratitude can transform common days into Thanksgivings, turn routine jobs into joy, and change ordinary opportunities into blessings. Sometimes we may forget how special a place Southern Door can be until we are reminded of it through the eyes of others who visit other schools or from other communities.

The accolades that our high school musical received this past weekend from family and friends, but also those from afar spoke to what our young people can accomplish with the guidance of our staff. Take for example the couple from Madison who happen to sit in front of me at the Saturday matinee musical. They were spending a weekend in Door County and decided to take in our show of Mamma Mia! In addition to being very impressed with the auditorium facility, they were spellbound by the talents of our students and said the whole experience made for a very memorable visit to Door County.

In another sharing, an agency director spoke to the culture she feels when entering our schools: "I am continually impressed with the customer service I receive from your school staff and how well behaved your students are. You have an amazing school!"

In gratitude for the awesome privilege to serve the students, staff, and community of Southern Door, Together We Are Eagle Strong!

Patti

DEPARTMENT OF PUBLIC INSTRUCTION RELEASES STATE REPORT CARDS
As a teaching and learning community, we are continually looking to improve our school district by developing school goals aligned to the district goals established by the Board of Education. One source of accountability data that we use to reflect on our strengths and areas for improvement within our schools and at the district level is the state's School Report Card.

These School Report Cards include weighted data on multiple indicators for multiple years across four Priority Areas (Student Achievement, Growth, Closing Gaps, and On-track and Post-Secondary Success). In addition, given the impact on student success, the Accountability Report Cards also measure chronic absenteeism and dropout rates. Southern Door's ratings are as follows:
Elementary - Exceeds Expectations
Middle School - Meets Expectations
High School - Exceeds Expectations
District - Exceeds Expectations
To view the reports in more detail, please go to this link on the DPI website.

As DPI stresses, these report cards are just one source of information about our school. There are many other pieces of data at the classroom and school levels that help to illuminate some of the successes and areas for future work in our district. Thank you for your support of our educational efforts to meet the needs of all students and to improve student achievement in our district.
HOLIDAY PARTY FOR SENIOR CITIZENS - DECEMBER 12
All senior citizens who live in Southern Door, ages 62 and over are invited to attend the 32 nd annual holiday party. This year’s party will be on Wednesday, December 12, 2018 and is sponsored by the high school students and staff. This is a FREE event offered as a holiday thank you from the school district to its community residents.

Following the entertainment will be a great lunch served by the district’s food service staff. Attendees are also eligible for door prizes including some homemade items by the high school career and technical education departments.
