Dear Southern Door Community,
As I look back on our being in school almost a full quarter, I like to reflect on the great things we sometimes take for granted. Here are just a few examples of what I have witnessed over the past few weeks:
--A parent leaving parent teacher conferences shared with me that all their kids have experienced Southern Door and it's been a wonderful experience."
--A consultant praised our staff for their commitment to individual student success.
--A parent called me with huge kudos for the warm customer service provided by one of our secretaries
--Multiple teams of teachers, support staff, and principals come together with parents to ensure that specific student needs are being met.
--Other school districts are contacting us about how the elementary established inclusive gaga pits in partnership with the Lions and foundation grants.
--One of the Lions Club members assisting with vision screening shared, "We have been to other schools and your kids are the best behaved. Your staff has been so warm and welcoming to us."
--A support staff member went out of their way to console a child who couldn't find the person who was supposed to pick them up after school.
--The energy and passion of our coaching staff and advisors as they help students find success as individuals and collectively as teams.
--A community resident who told of the impact Southern Door must have on the world when she shared that her son's class alone has produced several doctors, professors, and engineers.
--A local business's appreciation of the outreach we did in helping one of their prospective employees tour our school. The candidate left extremely impressed with the tour given and their interactions with students, staff, and administration.
--The excitement of over 400 grandparents and senior guests on campus today as they participated in activities with their elementary children . . . and the list could go on and on!
I marvel at the high quality work our staff do day in and day out each week with our students - an awesome responsibility and a privilege we have as educators serving the Southern Door community. With your support and partnership with us in the education of our children, Together We Are Eagle Strong!

Q. Wasn’t there legislation passed to help low-spending districts? Why is Southern Door one of only seven in the state who need to go back to the voters for an operational referendum to receive what others automatically received?
State Representative from the 1
st
Assembly District, Joel Kitchens shared this message with us,
“Because of a wrinkle in the law, Southern Door and six other districts around the state were unable to take advantage of the legislation we passed this session to increase the revenue limit for our low spending school districts. A few of us tried to correct this inequity but were unsuccessful, leaving these seven districts as the lowest spending districts in the state. These seven low-spending districts are at an economic disadvantage when it comes to competing with other area districts for teachers, as well as students."
|
Q. Where will the questions be on the ballot? Do I vote on each one?
The referendum is being held during the November general election, meaning there will be several items on the ballot.
The two referendum questions for the school are located on the
middle of the second page.
This sample ballot has Question 1 represented in yellow. Question 2 is represented in orange. You have the opportunity to vote on each question independently
.
Note: The questions will not be in color on the official ballot, the color on the sample ballot is for instructional purposes only.

GENERAL REMINDERS FOR HALLOWEEN
Students and staff may choose to wear fall colors or an appropriate fall/Halloween costumes. Please remember that in line with our school district policies, no masks, no weapons (or look-alike weapons) may be part of the costume. Any costumes with themes of violence are also not appropriate. Thus there can be no Scream, Freddy Kruger, etc. nor any other costumes depicting violence, horror, etc. here at school. Minimal makeup is permissible if applied at home before coming to school.
You may want to keep in mind the various activities that your child will be involved in such as recess, gym class, lunch, etc. in planning what they will wear to school that day.
As always, learning and safety are our primary concerns. Please be sure that your child's costume is in good taste and that it will not be a disruption to the learning environment. As with any other theme day, if a student's clothing causes disruption to the learning process, the classroom teacher will be asking them to remove the costume.
Following these guidelines allows students and staff to have a little fun with the holiday while keeping learning as the top priority.

On Thursday, November 1 at 6pm, we will send a test to all the communication preferences parents have checked on Infinite Campus.
The following instructions at this

GOOD LUCK TO SD'S
FIRST
LEGO LEAGUE
ROBOTICS TEAM
First LEGO League is preparing for their regional competition on November 3rd in Appleton to compete against 25+ teams. Their project was to find a problem with long-duration space travel. We created a flour tortilla with cancer fight ingredients.....turmeric and black pepper. Astronauts are exposed to higher levels of radiation and the team believes this can help! They also have to program their Lego EV3 Robot to complete missions on the lego table. It's a fun, fast-paced day! Team #24516 The Three Tortillas consists of Hailey Veeser, Avery VanRemortel, Spencer Slezewski, mentored by Tracy Slezewsk
