Dear Sacramento Naturopathic MC Community;
Happy Mother's Day! Thank you mothers (in the broad sense of the term of women that care for others) for all the incredible things that you do on a daily basis, and sacrifices you make for your children, grandchildren, and for the other "kids" that you support and mentor along the journey so that they may also feel loved and experience joy in this life. Thank you also from the bottom of my heart for sharing your stories with me. You have deeply enriched my life these last 12 years!
Wow! There were already 20-30 people waiting at the front door 20 minutes before we were even supposed to open! For those of you who were able to be here for our Open House, thank you so much for attending! A big shout-out to my sister, Mary Rita Godby-Ely, who flew down from Alaska to pull off, what seemed like a Jesus "multiplication of the loaves and fishes" as she and her help continued to serve the multitudes throughout the afternoon and evening with the amazing and healthy appetizers from our little staff kitchen! Unfortunately, we didn't get a photo of Mary Rita in the kitchen, or of the wonderful food, but many thanks to Isaiah for taking photos (see below), and for the staff's amazing planning and execution of the Open House. Also, I want to extend a huge thanks to Denise Arend, and my family in Sacramento!

2 scary clinical experiences with Nutrasweet: 1) Several years ago I had a patient with MS (Multiple Sclerosis) that had drunk diet sodas on a daily basis. A while later she ended up in jail for two weeks and had no access to the diet sodas. Upon leaving jail, without the aspartame, her MS symptoms had completely disappeared. 2) A 7 y/o patient with autism presented to clinic and was doing extremely well in the appointment - until her mom gives her chewing gum with aspartame. After about 3-5 minutes chewing the gum, she "goes wild." I had to ask her dad to take her out of the clinic because she was so uncomfortable. I found out from her mom that this had happened before but she had not put "two and two" together the connection with aspartame.
A great story I heard on the way to work yesterday morning on NPR that is, needless to say, not new to naturopathic doctors - the power of healthy and real food.
