Throughout history, midwives have played various roles –respected local matriarchs, mediators between medicine and the community, and women's rights advocates. Even now, the roles pile on as the lockdown baby boom ensues!

Join the National Organization of Italian American Women on Zoom for an International Women's Day Celebration and panel discussion on how midwifery has evolved historically and continues to evolve today in the Covid world.   On the launch day of her novel, Under the Light of the Italian Moon, author Jennifer Anton will serve as moderator for this illuminating discussion examining midwives' past and present role in Italy and the changing dynamic of midwifery in America today. Our all-women panel will feature the insight of three experts in midwifery and medicine.

Our discussion will also conclude with an interactive Q&A session.

About Our Moderator

Jennifer Anton is an American/Italian dual citizen born in Joliet, Illinois, and now lives between London and Lake Como, Italy. A proud advocate for women's rights and equality, she hopes to rescue women's stories from history, starting with her Italian family.  
About Our Panel

Sibilla Grasso graduated in midwifery in 2007 then practiced in Rome for two years. In 2009 she moved to London. Since 2014, she has been the Bereavement Specialist Lead Midwife for an East London maternity unit.  
 
Professor Jennifer Kosmin's work explores the history of medicine in early modern Italy. Focusing on childbirth, reproduction, and women's health, she is interested in understanding the social and cultural dimensions of scientific and medical knowledge, both in the past and in the present.  
 
Mary Saracco has a certificate in midwifery from Philadelphia University, 1999 and is part of the American College of Nurse Midwives. As a nurse midwife and advanced practice nurse she believes that all women deserve dignified and individualized care. Caring for women throughout their reproductive years with respect is hallmark in her practice.
