Dovetail Associate and radio show producer Mark Jacobs is helping bring important forest conversations to the airwaves through his work with KAXE’s “Fires in MN Forests” series. In a recent episode, Ben Benoit from the Leech Lake Band of Ojibwe shared how Traditional Ecological Knowledge (TEK) plays a key role in fire mitigation and forest health, from fostering regeneration and medicinal plant growth to preventing catastrophic wildfires. Through this series, Mark and the KAXE team highlight how Indigenous knowledge and modern science can come together to create more resilient Minnesota forests.

Reflection of the 2025 Biochar Conference

Reflection By: Brad Matlack

"Presenting our project results to a gathering of biochar enthusiasts was a great way to get some feedback on our project. And sharing the time with long time farmer friend Steve Risacher from Carlton county was a bonus. Steve is progressive and innovative in his approach to beef farming and letting him talk about his part in our project was very rewarding. Meeting a few peers in the biochar for soil health realm was also a great way to compare a few thoughts about our 2nd year results."
