TO BRIGHTEN YOUR DAY
When delivering lunches to elderly shut-ins, I often take my 4-year-old daughter. She was unfailingly intrigued by the various appliances of old age, particularly the canes, walkers and wheelchairs. One day I found her staring at a pair of false teeth soaking in a glass. As I braced myself for the inevitable barrage of questions, she merely turned and whispered, 'The tooth fairy will never believe this!'
A DEVOTIONAL THOUGHT by Pastor Phil

"Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His love endures forever!"
Psalm 136:1

What do I have to be thankful for?
  • I have the world’s best wife (Others will argue that their wife is the best. They can believe what they want)
  • I live in a nice, comfortable home
  • Our clothes have their own room
  • I don’t wonder if I can eat, I wonder what I will choose to eat
  • We each have a car
  • Our cars have their own house
  • We have so much abundance one of our cars can’t fit in the garage
  • I am healthy. My family is healthy
  • My mom is healthy and will be here for Thanksgiving
  • I can pay my bills
  • I serve a congregation who cares for me
  • I work with great people
And on and on…

What are you thankful for?

What if I didn’t have my health, or my job? Many of the things I just mentioned are "things." What if I didn’t have any of them? Would I still be thankful? What would I have to be thankful for?

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His love endures forever!
Would I still believe that if I didn’t have any of my “things?”

What am I thankful for?
  • I am not getting what I deserve (God’s punishment).
  • I am getting what I don’t deserve – forgiveness, new life, the Holy Spirit’s presence, heaven
  • Jesus loves me enough to die for me – and you
  • The fellowship of God’s people
  • Kind words, kind actions, kind people
  • Smiles, handshakes and hugs

I am thankful that my salvation cannot be taken away. God’s love endures forever, it will not turn to disdain when I fail.

I am also thankful I have the opportunity to make this Good News known to others, to share it with the next generation and the next, even if it means sacrificing some of the “things” I am thankful for.

To not be willing to share and sacrifice, would be ungrateful for the sacrifice of Christ to reach me and you.

Give thanks to the Lord for He is good. His love endures forever!

One more thing. I am also grateful for chocolate.
ALL SAINTS SUNDAY
THIS SUNDAY

All Saints Day is a time for remembering and celebrating the saints from our church family who have passed on to heaven. We will be remembering those who have passed on since our last remembrance in March. We'll also be continuing our series on 1 Thessalonians, Live True, with it's powerful teaching on our hope of eternity with Christ.
BLESS THOSE WITH GREAT NEEDS AROUND THE WORLD

We partner with Samaritan's Purse to provide the message of Christmas to children in some of the neediest parts of the world through a Christmas Shoebox filled with small gifts. To participate you can:
  • Pick up a box in the church lobby AND a list of approved items to put in it. Shop for those items, fill the box and return it.
  • Make a donation of items or cash and our team will fill a box for you
  • Go online and create and pay for a box. CLICK HERE to go to the website for the online option

MISSIONARY OF THE MONTH

Northern California Region of the North American Baptists

Pleasant Grove Community Church is indebted to the Northern California Region of the North American Baptists for being instrumental in the starting of our church. Ever since, we have supported the ministry of the NorCal NAB and they continue to partner with us. Most recently in helping us hire and train Pastor Joe Caples.

The NAB has four end goals:

  1. The NAB will be trained for missional ministries that flow out of being spiritually formed by who God is and who we are in God. This is about multiplying ministry and planting churches.
  2. The NAB will connect with ethnic partnerships and seek to live out a God-directed racial righteousness.
  3. The NAB will seek to identify and develop emerging leaders and to equip spiritual leaders.
  4. The NAB will send international missionaries, partnering with national Christians and national churches in cross-cultural settings.

These end goals are not just for certain kinds of people or certain kinds of churches. These ends flow from who God is and who God wants the NAB to be in him.
