PRISMA NEWSLETTER – June 4, 2018
The countdown is on! We can't wait to welcome participants and audience members to the sixth annual PRISMA Festival in beautiful Powell River, BC, Canada! The fun officially begins on June 11 (one week from today) and runs until June 23.
Our 2018 PRISMA Festival Orchestra will be the largest we've ever had, with 90 students from 18 different countries joining us for two weeks of music-making. We hope you'll join us, too!

Join us for the kickoff to PRISMA 2018

PRISMA and The Laughing Oyster are proud to invite you to an evening of fine dining and musical entertainment on Sunday, June 10. Performances will include PRISMA favourites Edwin Sungpil Kim, Janet Arms and Marc Goldberg – and, of course, maestro Arthur Arnold. Tickets are $45 (including a buffet meal) and there will be a silent auction benefitting the 2018 PRISMA Festival.

On Saturday, June 23, our Symphony Cruise will bring hundreds of people to Powell River from the Comox Valley to attend a matinee performance by the PRISMA Festival Orchestra. Lunch packages are available and onboard entertainment will be provided by Powell River fiddle group, Ceilish.

Josephslegende and Stravinsky’s infamous
Rite of Spring. Plus, our concerto competition finalists compete for the chance to spend a week with the Moscow Symphony.

June 11-23, Various times – Evergreen Theatre
Familiarize yourself with the various sections of the orchestra as our master faculty members offer tips and tricks to PRISMA students from around the globe. Recitals will close out each day, with $5 admission.

June 16, 6pm (5pm vendors) – Willingdon Beach
Enjoy an evening of music complemented by local food and art vendors, a salmon barbecue and a beer garden. Symphonic highlights will include works by Vivaldi and Tchaikovsky as well as a special performance of the
Harry Potter Suite.

June 20, 7:30pm – Evergreen Theatre
An evening of contemporary compositions featuring the talented PRISMA percussionists and special guests! Works by exclusively British Columbia composers: Tony Genge, Marcus Goddard, Gavin Bryars and Juliet Palmer.

The stakes are high and the expectations are even higher as 11 aspiring symphony musicians battle it out for a coveted spot in the finals.

June 21, 7:30pm - Evergreen Theatre
Guest artists and select students will inspire your imagination through intimate repertoire and works for larger ensembles. An evening not to be missed!
