What is the PTG?
PTG stands for Parent-Teacher Guild.

We are a committed group of parents that believe in supporting our teachers, the value of Catholic education, and the importance of a positive and welcoming school environment.

The mission of the PTG is to help build and promote a school community of faith by supporting our teachers and staff, funding programs, providing activities for our children and families, and encouraging communication between the parents and staff of Sacred Heart School.

The objectives of our PTG:

  • Coordinate fundraising efforts and resources to meet the mandated annual assessment of 10% of the school’s operating budget set forth by The Pittsburgh Diocese (A goal of $50,000 for the 2021–22 school year).

  • Maximize financial resources available to the school through well planned fundraising activities, volunteer services, and contributions from the business community.

  • Plan community-building activities such as student and family enrichment programs, school assemblies, visiting artist programs, and field trips with fundraising dollars.

  • Celebrate and support our faculty and staff, their extraordinary commitment to our students, and their efforts in and out of the classroom through staff appreciation lunches, classroom supply funds, and our homeroom parent support program.

Who can join the PTG?
Any SHES parent, guardian or teacher.

In order to make our events and initiatives successful, we need a robust and diverse crew of volunteers to help organize and plan.

We also organize Dine to Donate partnerships and sponsor events like Trunk or Treat, Holiday Greens, Santa’s Workshop, Family Skate Nights at Schenley Rink, the Ornament Workshop, and Kids Night Out.

Sarris Candies, Boon Supply, Triangle Hoagies, and Gosia’s Pierogies are all SHES PTG fundraising partners.

When does the PTG meet?
The SHES PTG meets the first Tuesday of each month in the Elizabeth Ann Seton Room on the second floor of the school. Our next meeting is Tuesday, November 2, at 7:00 p.m.

How can I contribute to the PTG?
Consider attending a meeting—all are welcome! Come prepared to contribute ideas to make our school even better, or join those currently working on existing events. If you aren’t able to participate on the PTG, then please support our fundraising and community-building efforts.

EVENT REPORTS
Hoagie Sale

We sold over 731 Hoagies during our Triangle Hoagie Sale, including 91 Mission Hoagies that were donated to East End Cooperative Ministries. This fundraiser earned $2,100 toward the PTG assessment! Thank you to all the families that participated (yum)!
Penny Wars

Congratulations to our 5th grade champions! They are looking forward to celebrating their victory with an ice-cream party! We had such an amazing week battling for first place, and although only one grade earned the most points—our whole school will benefit from new playground equipment.

A special thank you to the team of parent volunteers who tirelessly sorted, counted, wrapped, and cashed-in over $9,000!

Scholastic Book Fair
November 15–19, 2021

Did you know? Reading just 20 minutes a day exposes your child to about 1.8 million words per year. Reading helps students develop a stronger vocabulary, and in addition, students who read for pleasure average higher grades in English, mathematics, science, and history!

We look forward to welcoming staff, students, and families back to our in-person book fair the week before Thanksgiving! Look for more details soon!
