Chocolate Auction
Sunday, February 14, at 11:45a.m.

The Chocolate Auction is one of the most fun events of the church year.  Bring your favorite chocolate delicacies - they may be wrapped or decorated for Valentine's Day, if you wish.  Items will be auctioned off to the highest bidder after coffee hour.  We hope you will bid on several items! All proceeds go to the general fund.  Please come and enjoy this wonderful fundraising event.  Items should be dropped off in the Fellowship Hall before church on February 14.

Along the Way
Message from Steve Cook, Interim Minister

Dear Friends,

I like this poem by Patricia Fargnoli about the graces of winter.  Not to minimize winter's challenges, but its slower pace and diminished activities can also give us moments of quiet reflection that are harder to find in busier seasons.  May we all find a few moments of grace in the weeks ahead.

See you in church,
Rev. Steve

"Winter Grace" by Patricia Fargnoli

If you have seen the snow
under the lamppost
piled up like a white beaver hat on the picnic table
or somewhere slowly falling
into the brook
to be swallowed by water,
then you have seen beauty
and know it for its transience.
And if you have gone out in the snow
for only the pleasure
of walking barely protected
from the galaxies,
the flakes settling on your parka
like the dust from just-born stars,
the cold waking you
as if from long sleeping,
then you can understand
how, more often than not,
truth is found in silence,
how the natural world comes to you
if you go out to meet it,
its icy ditches filled with dead weeds,
its vacant birdhouses, and dens
full of the sleeping.
But this is the slowed-down season
held fast by darkness
and if no one comes to keep you company
then keep watch over; your own solitude.
In that stillness, you will learn
with your whole body
the significance of cold
and the night,
which is otherwise always eluding you.

MSC Update

In January, the Ministerial Search Committee reviewed the Ministerial Records of the ministers in search who expressed an interest in our church and shared our online Informational Packet with them. We carefully evaluated the Ministerial Records of the ministers interested in First Parish of Stoughton and shared our Informational Packet with those we deemed to be a possible "good fit". We began interviewing candidates via FaceTime and Skype. This is an exciting time for the MSC and for our congregation!

Thank You to...

...everyone who contributed to the Stoughton Community Food Drive on Monday, January 18, to celebrate the birthday and life of of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

...Cesar McElaney and his family for preparing and delivering the MainSpring brown bag lunches in January.
