Tony Renda '09 Joins the Red Sox
Tony Renda '09  made a splash this month in  his  first game with the  Boston  Red Sox. Just called up from  Triple -A Pawtucket, Renda was inserted into Sunday night's game against the Yankees as a pinch runner in the 10th inning. Renda  promptly  scored the winning run from second base when Andrew Benintendi singled into center field. Renda previously played in the MLB for the Reds in 2016 and is the eleventh Serra graduate to reach the Majors. He is Serra's career hits leader and was the Pac-10 Player of the Year for UC Berkeley in 2011.
Isaiah Salinda '15 Wins the Pacific Coast Amateur Championship
Serra graduate Isaiah Salinda '15 was back in the news last month, winning the prestigious Pacific Coast Amateur Championship at The Olympic Club. The Stanford senior shot a course-record 62 in the third round and finished at -12 overall to secure the championship. Thirty-two of the world's top 100 amateurs played in this year's tournament, which has roots dating back to 1901.

This week, Isaiah is competing in the US Amateur Championship at Pebble Beach, where he has advanced to the match play portion of the tournament.

Mike Fadelli '88 Joins the Serra Team
Mike Fadelli '88 is Serra's  new chief advancement officer.
A proud Padre alumnus and current parent, Mike joined Serra earlier this month as the leader of the advancement efforts at his alma mater.

"Serra has always been a part of my life," Mike noted. "I have had such an attachment to Serra from the time I was 3 years old and my sister married Ron Houle '70, to now being a proud parent of a Serra student."

Mike is the former vice presid ent of sales for Cumulus Media (KNBR, KFOG & KSAN).

"My four years at Serra taught me important values such as respect and integrity in the business world," Mike reflected. "It was at Serra that I learned about brotherhood and fellowship.

"My vision for my new position is to continue to bring our alumni, donors, parents and friends of Serra together, and to unite our Padre community as we look to advance the mission of Serra High School now and in the future. As a father, seeing what this school is doing for my son has only reinforced what a special place Serra High school is. I'm excited about my new role."
2018 Honor Bowl
The defending D2-AA state-champion Serra Padres will open their football season in an all-American atmosphere on August 25 in Mountain View. The Serra football program has been selected to participate in The Honor Bowl series of high school football games to start the season. Sponsored by The Honor Group, the Honor Bowl series evokes the pageantry and spirit of high school athletics and combines it with an awareness campaign for veterans of the United States Military.

The Pad res will kick off at 7:30 p.m. on August 25 at Saint Francis High School. An unfamiliar opponent with a recognizable name will await the Padres in Serra High School of Gardena, Ca. The two Serra schools are both ranked in Cal-Hi Sports' Top 30 state-wide teams in its annual pre-season rankings. The game will be streamed on Facebook Live.
The Honor Group, Inc. is a nationally-recognized nonprofit that educates youth and coaches about the needs of our military veterans. The organization will partner with the San Francisco 49ers to celebrate the National Football League's Salute to Service initiative, which honors the military and the sacrifices they make on behalf of our country.

Fall Sports
Cross country, water polo and football will kick off their seasons later this month! Check out the Serra and WCAL websites for updated schedules. Go Padres!
