Last month, the Serra community embarked on its annual Adopt-a-Family campaign and canned food drive, led by Campus Ministry.  Countless students, parents, faculty and staff contributed to 16 families chosen by the Redwood City Catholic Worker House. In total, approximately $10,000 in canned food, blankets, warm jackets and gift cards will be distributed to needy families in our county. We are grateful to our community for its tremendous generosity and commitment to charitable causes.

During Thanksgiving week, we hosted our annual fall alumni sports week, which was a great success. More than 125 alumni participated in events for wrestling, basketball, water polo and soccer. Alumni reconnected with their former coaches and teammates.

December started on an exciting note with Open House last Thursday. Serra hosted hundreds of prospective seventh- and eighth-graders from throughout the Bay Area. We received rave reviews about our positive atmosphere and welcoming students and staff.  We are looking forward to a great spring semester ahead of us.

Sincerely,

Baseball Field Renovation
Progress is being made on Serra's baseball field renovation project. The field has been laser leveled and a new irrigation system has been installed. New sod will be laid down next week and the field will re-open in mid-January.
Christmas Concert Tonight!
The  Serra Music Department will present " Mary Did You Know?" a special Christmas concert for the entire  Serra community tonight at 7:30 p.m. The concert will feature the Tri-School Chorus, Men's Chorus, Eleven Dollar Singers, Jazz Band, and Symphonic Band.

"I'm especially proud of all the groups' progress this semester," said Serra Music Director Jay Jordan. "We have the biggest Men's Chorus in school history, with many freshmen and other new faces. With the most girls we've had since the '90s, the Tri-School Symphonic Band sounds very strong for this time of year, as does the Jazz Band. I'm really looking forward to the concert."
College Commitments
Seven Padres signed letters of intent to colleges across the United States on November 11. They were joined by their families, friends and coaches for a special celebration.

"It's an athletic director's dream to be here with all of you today," said Serra Athletic Director Dean Ayoob '92. "Thank you for entrusting your student-athletes to us. We are so proud of them."

Winter Sports Preview
Serra basketball had one the best seasons in its history last year, winning the CCS Open Division championship and making a deep run in the state tournament. 2015 State Coach of the Year winner Chuck Rapp '86 will look to defend the CCS title with returning senior swingman Jake Killingsworth, who recently committed to play for Columbia University in the Ivy League. Also returning will be point guard Lee Jones and
7-foot sophomore Jack Wilson

Wrestling will look to build on an outstanding season last year, which saw varsity go 5-1 and the JV and freshman teams each win WCAL championships.  The team will be coached by  Mike Klobuchar '91 and returns its MVP from last year, Dominick Christmas

The soccer team returns many starters from last season and will be led by defenders Ben Godfrey, Matt Herrera, Andrew O'Brien and Kiko Macias. Macias has been part of the U.S. Soccer Development Academy for the last three years.
