2017 Serra Golf Classic
Thank you to everyone who attended or supported the 30th Annual Serra  Golf Classic held last month at the Peninsula  Golf and Country Club. We had a sellout of 129 golfers and 30 more individuals joined us for dinner at the Club.

The tournament was won by the team of Head Football Coach Patrick Walsh, Chick Walsh, Chris Walsh and Greg Guttas '09 with a score of 57. The team led by Chris Pedersen '89 also finished with a 57, but was bested in the tie-breaker. The team led by Serra parent and Board member Scott Pritchett finished third with a score of 61.

Great memories were made and more than $25,000 was raised for the Alumni Scholarship Fund.  This was also the final development event for Development Director Perry Carter '84, who is returning to teaching, and Development Associate Robin Jensen, who is retiring. Good luck to both Perry and Robin, and we hope to see everyone at next year's tournament, which is scheduled for June 25, 2018.
Chris Houle '92 Named Head Baseball Coach
Serra alumnus Chris Houle '92 has been named Serra High School's head baseball coach.

Coach Houle was Serra's junior varsity baseball coach from 1998 to 2009 and served as the assistant director of athletics from 2003-2004.

Houle currently teaches business, technology and math courses at Serra. He served as the school's Math Department chair from 2012-2016.

"We are extremely excited to have Chris Houle as our new varsity baseball coach," said Serra Director of Athletics Dean Ayoob '92. "Chris knows our school and program very well, and he is passionate about promoting the values that Serra stands for."

As a junior in 1991, Houle was an infielder on the varsity team that won the WCAL, CCS and State championships. The team won the WCAL championship the following year as well.

"I truly love Serra baseball, he said. "I enjoy being part of such a rich tradition. As a child, I grew up watching Padre baseball. I played all four years in high school and then later coached at Serra for 12 years, so I have a unique perspective."

Houle's grandfather, Ken Houle, coached Serra's varsity baseball team from 1956 to 1975. He hopes to follow in his grandpa's footsteps by providing a dynamic environment for Padres to succeed.

"My 20 years as a teacher and 12 years as a coach have given me many opportunities to work on communication and motivation," he said. "The real challenge lies in truly finding what makes a student-athlete tick. What is it that makes him work so hard to achieve success in the classroom or on the field? That's the challenge I love."

Coach Houle lives in Redwood City with his wife, Noelle, and children, Nino and Matea.

Isaiah Salinda '15 Honored by Stanford Golf
Serra graduate Isaiah Salinda '15 was recently named Stanford golf's most improved player for the 2017 season. The Cardinal sophomore had a 72 stroke average and earned six top-25 finishes this year. Isaiah was a CCS champion, WCAL champion and an AP Scholar while at Serra.
Around the Halls
Summer at Serra 2017
More than 1,000 children from the local community are using our facilities for summer camp, theatre camp, rowing camp, swim school, Golden State Aquatics , Peninsula Wrestling and Next Level activities this summer. Don't miss out on the great opportunities for your kids during Summer at Serra! Campers get to use recently remodeled facilities such as our 38-meter infinity pool, baseball field, football field, music room, and much more!
Summer Renovation
Serra is continuing to move forward with the renovation of its gym floor and placement of a block "S" in the middle of the athletic field. In addition, the inside of the Morton Family Gym has been re-painted. The last full-scale renovation of the gym floor, as we are doing now, was completed in 1982.

Thank you to our donors who have made this project possible.  In the words of Junipero Serra, Siempre Adelante (Always Forward)!
