Please know that this data is never shared with anyone besides school employees, who use it for official school business.
Spring Alumni Appeal
Our spring appeal, directed toward alumni and parents of alumni, has been sent in the mail. Thank you to all those who have already made gifts to Serra, especially during our recent phonathon.

Our focus is participation. We are grateful for each and every gift that seeks to inspire, transform and innovate here at Serra. Please consider sending back the return envelope, or making an online gift at the link below. We are committed to reaching our goal of 750 alumni donors by June 30 in honor of Serra's upcoming 75th anniversary.

Around the Halls
2018 Valedictorians
Serra has selected Sean O'Brien, Tyler Baumann and Henry James as its valedictorians for the Class of 2018. All three seniors are outstanding students, leaders and athletes.

Sean is a National Merit Finalist who will attend UC Berkeley as a Regents' and Chancellor's Scholar. O'Brien is one of just 200 entering freshman and transfer students who earn this scholarship annually. He is also a cross country and track athlete, and is ranked among the top 100 debaters nationwide.

"Serra's learning environment for me has been the same as its social environment - driven by friendly interactions and the mentorship of teachers who care about us as individuals," Sean said. "I'll always be proud to be a Padre."

Tyler is a recruited student-athlete who will row for Stanford University's crew team, which is currently ranked fifth in the nation. He has an unweighted 4.0 GPA, meaning he has earned straight-A's in every semester at Serra.

"As a member of the crew team, I have grown to understand the importance of teamwork in order to be successful," Tyler said. "By supporting each other, our team puts brotherhood into action."

Henry will attend Georgetown University. He has taken 10 Advanced Placement classes throughout his time at Serra.  Henry has been a standout basketball player on Serra's varsity team for three years. He was named team MVP as a junior.

"I have an incredible family, and I attribute much of my success to them," Henry said. "The Serra community has become my second family, and one that I will be forever grateful for. Serra is a special place, with its defining characteristic being the quality of the people within it."
Jay Jordan's Final Concert
You won't want to miss Serra's Spring Concert at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, May 9. This will be Music Director Jay Jordan's final concert before he retires in June.

"I'm excited because it's my last one, but I don't want that fact to overshadow the fine work that all the student-musicians are doing," he said. "The theme of the concert is Americana, a music category encompassing many different styles including folk, country, blues, bluegrass, rock 'n' roll, etc. The repertoire of each group includes one or more selections from the Americana genre, including the title song for t he concert, Will the Circle Be Unbroken, which will be sung by the Tri-School Chorus. I thought that title was also a relevant question regarding the future, for me and for the Music Department. I'm especially looking forward to featuring an all-alumni trio, Tom Sullivan '81, Alex Jordan '08 and Owen McInnis '10. They will accompany the Men's Chorus on the bluegrass standard, Shady Grove. Overall, I hope it will be a rewarding evening for the performers and the audience."

Jordan and Serra's top musicians will be honored at the end of the Spring Concert. This event is free and will be held in Serra's Gellert Auditorium. Please bring your friends and family!

Ken Houle Visits Serra
Serra's baseball program welcomed a legendary figure last month, as Ken Houle stopped by to cheer the Padres on to a 5-2 victory over Bellarmine. Ken, who is the grandfather of Serra Head Coach Chris Houle '92, coached the Padres baseball team from 1955-1975. The athletics complex is named in his honor.

Ken was also a faculty member and served as athletics director and business manager throughout his tenure. He retired from Serra in 1990. Ken visited with current Serra baseball players while on campus Saturday. It was a great day for our Padres to connect with Serra's storied history!

Serra baseball is currently ranked number 12 in California and is tied for first place in the WCAL.

Over the weekend, swimmer  Brooks Taner '19 broke the WCAL record in the 100 butterfly with a 48.80 in Saturday's WCAL Finals. The 200 medley relay of Taner, Danny Gilmartin, Riley Scanlan and Alec Cullen set another league record with a time of 1:34.36.  Taner and Cullen also won the 200 freestyle and 100 breaststroke, respectively.

Serra baseball won WCAL championships at every level (varsity, JV and freshman) over the weekend. In addition, Serra senior Zach Smith was named WCAL Volleyball Player of the Year.
