We have started the school year strong here at Serra and are in our second week of classes with 850 Padres on campus. I am looking forward to our Homecoming and Reunion festivities next month. I hope that you can join us.

There are many opportunities to come by and visit campus, with the fall sports season underway and our fall play, Radium Girls, scheduled to open on October 20. I hope to see you soon, and please have a wonderful Labor Day weekend.

Sincerely,

Summer Renovation
It was a busy summer at Serra, with numerous parts of the campus refreshed in time for the fall semester. Most noticeable is new exterior paint on much of the school building. A deep brown color known as Friar's Cloak, a nod to Saint Serra, was chosen to freshen up the fa├žade. A cream color was also used as an accent. This refresh was done as a placeholder in anticipation of a full remodel of the academic wing in 2019.

An eye-catching change that can be seen from Alameda de las Pulgas is the addition of Serra's logo to Freitas Field. A 40' by 30' "Block S" now adorns the center of the field used for lacrosse, track and field, soccer and football.

Last, the floor of Morton Family Gymnasium was torn out and is being replaced with a brand new maple floor, complete with a new design. The floor will feature an "S" logo at midcourt and Saint Serra's motto, Siempre Adelante, at the edges. The last time the gym floor was fully renovated was 1982. This renovation was made possible through proceeds from our fall raffle and major gifts from Serra benefactors.

Our summer updates have added to the more modern campus design that began with Phase I and II of Serra's Master Plan. Once complete, Phase III promises to further realize our vision for the Serra campus and propel our school forward as we celebrate our upcoming 75 th anniversary.
Fall Athletics Preview
Serra's water polo team has gotten off to a fast start in 2017, posting a record of 4-0 thus far and taking home a championship trophy from the Homestead Tournament.

Senior captain Reggie Greene was named the San Mateo Daily Journal's Athlete of the Week after racking up 12 goals, eight steals and seven assists in the three-game tournament. Returning starters Danny Gilmartin, Brian Butler, Will Cliff and Mitchell Alandt hope to lead the Padres to another successful season.

Serra's football team was ranked number two in the San Francisco Chronicle's Bay Area-wide preseason rankings. The Padres were the top-ranked program in the West Catholic Athletic League (WCAL) and the Central Coast Section (CCS). Serra fell to Central Valley-powerhouse St. Mary's over the weekend, but hope to gain momentum with a victory over Elk Grove on Saturday. The Padres return a number of starters including lineman 'Atonio Mafi (committed to Cal), receiver/linebacker Patrick Nunn (committed to Washington State), and cornerback Chris Park (committed to Columbia).

Cross country will host the 43rd Annual Crystal Springs Invitational on October 7. Approximately 50 teams enter this race on a 2.95 mile course of rolling hills, all run on trails. The Padres return junior Andrew Abbey, one of the top runners in the league and section last year.
