DR. BRADY KNAPP CELEBRATES
As the Rector announced earlier this month in worship, there will be a special reception during the 10:00 hour on Sunday, April 7, in honor of Dr. Brady Knapp. Dr. Knapp, who teaches at the University of St. Thomas and chairs the music department there, is Palmer's Director of Music and has served in that part-time role for more than 20 years. Throughout those two decades, he has nurtured the outstanding choral music program that lifts up our hearts to God at every Choral Eucharist and Evensong liturgy. As part of celebrating this anniversary, we would like to give Dr. Knapp a mini-sabbatical for the purpose of observing choral music programs in the Church of England and discussing those programs with his British colleagues. This will benefit not only Dr. Knapp but also Palmer. So the Vestry invites parishioners who would like to contribute to a sabbatical fund to send a check to the church and write "Knapp Sabbatical" in the memo line. In the meantime, do be sure to thank Dr. Knapp for his devotion to our life together in Christ!

LENTEN BOOK DISCUSSION STARTS THIS WEEK:
Everything Happens for a Reason and Other Lies I've Loved
by Kate Bowler
"What does it mean to die in a society that insists everything happens for a reason?" This is the question that motivates Kate Bowler's writing as stage IV colon cancer interrupts her life, just as it is taking off. A professor of American Christianity at Duke Divinity School, Bowler weaves her research interest in the prosperity gospel into the experience of diagnosis, treatment, and the loss of certainty that comes to enrich her faith. Riddled with wit and honesty, Everything Happens for a Reason invites us to consider our own mortality and the God who companions us through it. Join us for this lively discussion every Wednesday night in Lent at 7 PM in A102.
You can read her NY Times op-ed on the experience by clicking here or
click here to listen to a podcast with The Rev'd David Wantland who will be leading the discussion group.
