FAITH FORUM 
SUNDAYS AT 10:15 AM IN ST. BEDE'S CHAPEL
The topic for the Faith Forum Sunday, September 23 and 30 will be "What Literature Knows: Race, Community, and Kinship in American Narratives" with Emerson Zora Hamsa Emerson Zora Hamsa is a doctoral student in the Department of English at Rice University. Her research fields are 19th-Century American Literature and African-American Literature. Zora holds a certificate in Critical and Cultural Theory from the Center for Critical and Cultural Theory at Rice University. Zora also holds Master of Divinity and Master of Theological Studies degrees from Wesley Theological Seminary in Washington, D.C. 

TOGETHER WE...GATHER!
The Vestry and the Stewardship Committee are pleased to announce a number of events happening this month and next leading up to Covenant Sunday on October 28. These gatherings are opportunities for you to learn more about the many Palmer ministries that are made possible by your pledge gifts to Palmer.

The first two events this month will be held in private homes and we ask that you reply to the evite invitation to secure your reservation to attend. They are:
  • Sunday, September 23, 5:30 PM. Betty and Jim Key will host an evening focused on the many Outreach programs at Palmer. Curate David Wantland will be our speaker.

  • Thursday, September 27, 6 PM. Connie and John Wallace and Associate Rector Liz Parker will host an event to discuss the many Pastoral Care and Well Being programs supported by Palmers.

Upcoming Palmer Events
PALMER DOWNTOWN LUNCH
The next Palmer Downtown Lunch is Tuesday, September 25, at noon at the Treebeards inside Christ Church Cathedral. We will enjoy fellowship among Palmers who live or work downtown, as well as those who would like to join us downtown for the lunch hour. All are invited, and feel free to bring a work colleague or friend. Look for the reserved Palmer tables in the back. This is an informal gathering the last Tuesday of each month (except December and May). We look forward to seeing you!

LUNCH & LEARN OCTOBER 4 IN A202
Please join us as we welcome Sue Hamblen to the Thursday Lunch & Learn on October 4 at Noon. The name of her presentation is " Here I Am, Walking With You Into Death and Dying ."  Sue has a Master's degree in Humanities and served as St. Luke's Episcopal Hospital Staff Chaplain and Coordinator of Lay Ministry for hospital visitation. She was also a Palliative Care Team Chaplin and a Certified Bereavement Facilitator.  Bring your questions and your lunch; beverages provided.

WOMEN'S FIRST THURSDAYS
Join us every first Thursday evening of the month for fellowship, food and friends. Women of Palmer will gather to socialize and share a meal followed by a speaker-led discussion of different topics. Drinks will be provided and all are asked to bring an appetizer to share. Our next gathering is "Holiday Decorating" with Kristin Hutchison at 6pm on October 4 .

BLESSING OF THE ANIMALS OCTOBER 6 
Bring your pets to Palmer on Saturday, October 6 at 10 AM for a special blessing from our clergy. We will also be collecting 3lb bags of dry dog or cat food or a cash donation to donate to a Houston area animal shelter. Youth will be collecting donations before and after the services and will then deliver the donations on behalf of the Palmer community.

JODI PICOULT - A SPARK OF LIGHT
Brazos Bookstore presents Jodi Picoult, reading from her new book A Spark of Light. Ms. Picoult will be in conversation with Jen Hatmaker. This event will take place Saturday, October 6 at Palmer. This is a ticketed event. Doors open at 7 PM and the program starts at 7:30 PM. Books will be pre-signed and ready to pick up; there will be a Q&A and photo line meet-and-greet with the author after the event. Visit brazosbookstore.com for ticket information.

PALMER ARCHITECTURE TOUR OCTOBER 7
Please join architectural historian and Palmer parishioner Stephen Fox for a brief walking tour focusing on the history and design of Palmer Memorial Episcopal Church and its companion, Autry House. There will be two tours, one following the 9 AM and another following the 11 am service. Participants should meet at the front door of the church on Main Street.

PALMER WOMEN, SAVE THE DATE!
Please mark your calendars for Sunday, Oct. 21, 4-6, PM, at Susan Williford's home for food, wine, and conversation about how we were drawn to Palmer. Proceeds from this event will go toward the Women's Retreat. Tickets are $30 and can be purchased in the breezeway Oct. 7, 14 and 21 after the 9 and 11 AM services. AXIOM STRING QUARTET CONCERT SERIES
The Axiom String Quartet kicks off their season, High Contrast, here at Palmer on Saturday, October 27 at 7:30 PM. This is the first of five concerts that the quartet will perform through May at both Palmer and the University of St. Thomas. It will be a high energy season that combines classical masterpieces with entirely contrasting musical genres to bring you an unforgettable concert experience. 12 STEP "AL-ANON" MEETINGS AT PALMER
We are excited to announce that we have two new 12 Step "Al-Anon" meetings at Palmer. We have a 12 noon (Brown Bag) meeting on Mondays in Room A102 and a 6 PM (Sunday Seekers) meeting on Sunday night, also in Room A102. All meetings are open so if you have an interest in what 12 step recovery looks like, come on bye. If you have any questions contact Burdette Keeland at [email protected].

JOIN CHOIR FOR CHILDREN & YOUTH
Palmer offers three continuous choirs and one occasional choir for children and youth.  Choir teaches collaboration and service, and builds musical skills and focus.  Weekly rehearsals take place on Wednesdays in the adult choir room.
