We are pleased to welcome Mrs. Cindy Griffiths as social studies teacher. Mrs. Griffiths replaces Ms. Farmakidis who accepted another opportunity. We thank Ms. Farmakidis for her work with the students and welcome Mrs. Griffiths.

Registration News


Registration paperwork for the 2023-2024 school year will be mailed on February 1, 2023, and the deadline to return the paperwork and $200 registration fee will be February 16, 2023. Please note that it is important to return these by the deadline as there is limited space in several of our classes. After February 16, consideration will be given to students who are currently on our waiting list.

Chess Sets Needed



Elyria Catholic students are looking to start a chess club. They are in need of any old chess sets that may be laying around the house collecting dust. If you are interested in donating a chess set to the club please bring them to the main office and leave for Mr. Taylor.

$2 Dress Down Day


Friday, January 13 is a $2.00 dress down day to benefit the Blessing House. The Blessing House is a children’s crisis care center for children who are facing emergency situations at home.

Registration is open for the basketball cheer clinic! The clinic is open to students grades pre-k-4. Cost is $30 and registration forms are due by Wednesday, January 11. We can't wait to see our Mini Panther Cheerleaders!

Athletes interested in running, throwing, or jumping on the team this Spring, should contact Coach Barber. Conditioning workouts begin in January, and official practices start at the end of February. EC will be holding it's 5th Kairos retreat March 23-26 at St. Leonard's Retreat Center in Avon. This popular, optional retreat is offered and encouraged for any junior or senior. Navigating Social Media with Teens will be postponed at this time. We are excited to help support you in guiding your children and are hoping to have some invaluable speakers help with this process. Please be on the look out for a new date!

Tutoring for ACT



Free ACT tutoring available after school M-F from 3- 4pm with Mrs Heinrich. Slots are filling quickly. The test will be offered offsite in February, April, and June; all Juniors will be taking the test in spring '23. Feel free to reach out to Mrs. Heinrich for ACT prep and other ELA related services such as scholarship, personal, and college essay writing.

Test Anxiety and Study Skills


The Counseling Department went into English classrooms in December to talk about test anxiety and study skills to help students prepare for their upcoming midterms on January 18 and 19. Please talk with your students about how they plan to prepare for their midterms and how they are feeling about them. Check out some of the resources below for tips and study skills resources. Please reach out to your students school counselor if they need a student tutor to help them prepare for exams.

PAC Parent Advocates are a parent or caregiver who has raised a child with behavioral health challenges and has been trained to help other families. All of us have been where you are now and we want to help as you help your family. Our mission is to Empower, Educate, Encourage and Equip families to partner with professionals in promoting access to behavioral healthcare services that are family-centered, community based, comprehensive and culturally sensitive. College Credit Plus for 2023-2024


Considering CCP (College Credit Plus) courses for the summer, fall or spring in 2023-2024? Ohio’s College Credit Plus can help you earn college and high school credits at the same time by taking college courses from community colleges or universities. The purpose of this program is to promote rigorous academic pursuits and to provide a wide variety of options to college-ready students. Taking a college course from a public college or university College Credit Plus is free. Below is a link with more information to consider if CCP is right for you and the attached document has suggested courses for CCP through LCCC. Scholarship Opportunity

The Community Foundation of Lorain County



Seniors and Parents, The Community Foundation of Lorain County offers a variety of scholarships for students living in Lorain County. This is like a common app for scholarships in our area. Applications open December 15 and are due in March. Please see their website for more information. There are more then 50 scholarships available through this organization! Elyria Sports Hall of Fame

Scholarship Opportunity


The Elyria Sports Hall of Fame will be awarding an annual scholarship to students who are seniors attending a high school in Elyria, Ohio. The amount of the scholarship will be up to $500 with the possibility of four (4) awards being granted each year. The recipients

will be recognized at the Elyria Sports Hall of Fame Induction Banquet in May and will receive the check at their school spring awards banquet. Please see attached application to apply. Applications are due by March 3, 2023.

Key Club News

National soup month is upon us!


Key Club invites you to join our canned soup drive from now until the end of January with donations going to Second Harvest Food Bank. Please place all donations by the Spirit Shoppe where the toy drive was located. To donate is to care. Help us make a positive difference during these cold times. Go Panthers!

National Honor Society

Donate Books


National Honor Society initiated a Book Drive to collected children's books for students in grades Kindergarten through 4th grade. NHS students will be taking these books to read to students in local elementary schools. We need your help! Please donate gently used children's books or chapter books in the box outside the office or in Mrs. Finicle's room (215). Donate anytime on January 9th-20th.
