The Paratransit Pulse

Issue 2: August 2026

September Service Changes

Paratransit service is based on the service provided by the fixed-route bus system. As the service area for the fixed route changes, Paratransit service area follows suit.

The next service updates are planned for September 2026. Public meetings were held in June to go over the proposed revisions and to ask questions. Details about the proposed changes are available here.

New Access-on-Demand (AoD) Provider Contracts

As of July 1st, AoD has new service providers. They are: Onward, Sunshine Rides, Lyft and Uber. Each of the new providers offers all vehicle types, including Wheelchair Accessible Vehicles (WAV). Uber and Lyft will continue to be service providers. They do not offer WAV.

Meet the People Who Move You

This month, we are proud to recognize Access‑a‑Ride operator Eric Worthington for an extraordinary act of courage and compassion.

During his morning route, Eric noticed a house fire. Without hesitation, he safely pulled over, assessed the situation, and ran toward the flames. Inside were a man and his daughter who needed immediate help. Eric acted quickly—putting his own safety at risk—to help them quickly exit the home and call emergency services.

A rider who witnessed the event shared, “We saw a fire, and the driver pulled over and ran into the fire to save a man and his daughter. He needs a raise or a dinner, because he did not have to do that, but he took time and a risk to save people.”

Eric’s actions reflect the very best of Access‑a‑Ride: courage, service, and a genuine commitment to the wellbeing of others. We thank him for his bravery and for representing our community with such integrity.

Small Actions, Big Impact: Ride on Time

10 Rider Habits That Keep Buses Moving

Delivering reliable, on time service is a team effort. Our operators and dispatchers work hard to stay on schedule, and customers play an important part too. Here are the 10 most helpful things drivers say YOU can do to keep trips running smoothly:

  1. Be ready at the beginning of the pick-up window with your fare and ID in hand.

  2. Arrive at the vehicle in a timely manner, within 6 minutes

  3. Be courteous to your driver.

  4. Schedule your time sensitive-trip as an appointment and schedule it to arrive earlier than the appointment; do not pressure the driver when you have scheduled as a pickup.

  5. Remember that Access-a-Ride is a shared ride service, expect that there will be others on the vehicle that may be dropped off before you.

  6. Bring only what is necessary when you travel, excessive items on a mobility device increase the time it takes to secure the device.

  7. Respect the bag limits- 6 bags and less than 40 pounds per trip.

  8. Please allow the driver to follow the scheduled route.

  9. When you get a new mobility device, call RTD to let them know of the update.

  10. Take care of your personal needs (e.g. use the restroom) prior to your 30-minute window.
