A Conversation with Massimo Mori
There are many places to get a proper Italian meal in Paris, but very few that offer the gamut of experience to be had at Emporio Armani Caffé or
Mori Venice Bar where pashas and presidents, performers (Charles Aznavour, Pierre Arditi) and civilians like us dine in Starckian (Philippe) splendor.
Some people open restaurants to make money but Massimo did it because he is passionate and respectful of food and its presentation. We met for lunch at the Emporio Armani Caffé for a discussion of his career.
It was one of those far niente days and I was meeting my friend Albert on the just remodeled Emporio Armani Caffé for lunch and a view of the passing parade. Across the blvd. Saint-Germain from the Café de Flore it attracts many of the same clients: actors, actresses, writers, and elegant shoppers who choose it for a business meeting, a quiet meal with a friend or lover or even alone, as the charming woman to my left.
Elegance is in the details and at Mori Venice Bar it's in the decor and the cuisine. Remodeled in 2010 in a blend of the crisp modern style of Philippe Starck and the refinement of Italy, you know that you are in for a rich experience from the moment you walk in. Murano glassware, Venetian mirrors, chandeliers made by a client-a veritable museum.
Ross is an excellent speaker - I saw him at the Commonwealth Club here a few weeks ago.

My dear Terrance, I feel as flabbergasted as I did this summer in Germany when I woke up to Brexit! Back home in NyC, living in the Democratic stronghold of Stuyvesant Town, I watched CNN and its bevy of pollsters until 2 a.m. And I felt confident that Hillary & Co, seasoned pols all, would win the necessary electoral votes. Boy, it was Brexit all over again Wednesday morning! U. VA's Larry Sabato, king of pollsters, had predicted the Dem win after putting 91 nationwide polls through his computer, Wednesday said "I don't have egg on my face this morning, it's an omelet." (At least he gave his chagrin a French twist.) I wish I could be in Paris for the Argentine concert tonite at Le Main d'Or. Going to their concerts is always a highlight of my stays in Paris. Give Rebecca and David my best.
I got the book about our "grand horizontal" today. I've liked it since the opening lines of the introduction. She left two paintings to a museum under a false aristocratic name, and probably falsely identified the paintings? A rogue is always interesting...
