Roof Replacement  Update

David Hertzer, our Trustee who has been overseeing the roofing project, writes with this update: "The roofing work is on schedule and will be competed next week." We're grateful to General Roofing for their hard work, and to all our neighbors in our building for their patience. Next up is the concrete project, which will begin on August 19.

If any member has any complaints, concerns, or questions, please speak to David Hertzer after morning worship this week.

Book Discussion Group

Join the Book Discussion Group, last Sunday of the next 3 months, 11:30 - 12:30 in the Fireside room. The three dates are:

August 25th (Chapter1),
September 29 (Chapter 2),
October 27 (Chapter 3, 4, 5)

Our book, A Global Warming Primer, gives an elegant and clear explanation about the scientific reasons for global warming (lots of colorful visuals). Jeffrey Bennett, the author is an astrophysicist, former NASA scientist and prominent lecturer. He is the author of many books for curious adults, textbooks for colleges and for children; one book, "The Wizard Who Saved the World" was chosen to be read at the International Space Station.

Jeffrey Bennett will be a Person of the Planet guest speaker on Tuesday, November 5th at 7:00pm. We are excited that Mr. Bennett made time for us on his short visit to the Bay area. Mark you calendars. We will be ready. The book is available through Amazon
ACC's Food Barrel

Arlington Community Church is joining with the Contra Costa Solano County Food Bank to fill a food barrel over the next month.

1 in 8 people in the two counties - about 180,000 individuals - turn to the Food Bank of Contra Costa and Solano each month. St. Mary's University did a study in which they found  that 92% have a household income of less than $35,000 a year and it takes $76,500 for a family of four to make ends meet in California. 64% of households have seniors, children or both. Even more staggering, 29% rely on the Food Bank for at least half of their food.

The study also revealed that the majority of participants eat healthier since receiving food assistance from the Food Bank and its partner agencies. 71% of respondents said they eat more balanced meals. 75% of respondents said they eat more fresh fruits and vegetables.

The need is particularly great for protein items such as canned tuna or peanut butter. Right now please bring those items and other packaged food goods (with current expiration dates) and help us fill the barrel.

Cash contributions can also be made and the Lesher Fund is currently matching all gifts to the Food Bank.
Summer 2019
Improvements to Our Church
Two summer construction projects are scheduled to enhance our church building and exterior. Read more below, and keep us in prayer during this time of transition!

Concrete Project

Following the roof replacement project, our concrete project will start on August 19. The project will consist of replacing the retaining wall at the north end of the church, and the stairs from the patio down to the east end of the Kensington Nursery School walkway, as well and the patio itself and the wooden deck leading to it from the church Social Hall. This project is expected to last 4-6 weeks.
