Message from the corner office

Good morning

We are at the end of July roughly halfway through the season. Due to a slow weather start (remember it snowed in early May?) that means the second half of the season will be extremely busy. Currently, Park has exceeded an aggressive 2022 sales plan by 20%. The definition of Sales is new contracts obtained in current year (Awarded in 2022). Backlog is work under contract that has yet to be performed. Park’s current backlog is $138 million, the highest in many years. Some of the current backlog is multi-year projects that will carryover to 2023 and 2024, providing work to complete in the future.

These are very exciting numbers to share. I’d like to highlight that it is the confidence in Park’s employees that has allowed us to bid effectively and take calculated risk to obtain this work. So, let’s continue to hope for good weather, reduced supply chain issues and great productivity. But most importantly let’s continue the focus on safety. All the numbers are extremely strong, but everyone needs to go home safe at night. I would like to say thank you to all Park employees for your dedication, loyalty and commitment.

Message from the Safety office

Hello everyone,

2022 has been a very positive year with Near Misses being reported, proactively engaging safety before a high risk task begins, and the kick off to a CHASE Level 3 project in Maple Grove. Even though we’ve been “good” this year, we haven’t been “great”. We’ve seen an increase in property/equipment damage this month with much of it resulting from complacency (working on auto pilot).

One way to help overcome complacency, is to 'stay in the moment' and understanding your risks. Before you start any task, complete a SCAN.

  • Survey your surroundings for potential hazards
  • Consider how your actions could create a potential hazard
  • Analyze "What could go wrong?"
  • Notify supervisor if unable to correct or eliminate the hazard

Employee Spotlight - Josh Swankier

What's your favorite move?

Anchorman 1 or 2. Basically anything with Will Ferrell.

What do you enjoy most about your job?

I love the freedom I get and the opportunity to see a lot different areas of the state and country. I work hard, do a good job, and have developed a trust with my boss that he doesn’t have to hover over me. I also love hauling big, awkward, equipment. It’s a great challenge!

How's your health

Much better. In 2010 I had open heart surgery and recovered fully. However, I started to develop symptoms last year and the doctors didn’t know what the problem was. This spring, I became more sick and they finally saw that my heart sac was calcifying. Within 2 days I was back on the table for my 2nd open heart surgery. I was in a coma for 5 days and spent a total of 10 days in the hospital and was back to work 3 months later. I still feel like I’m not 100% but I continue to improve every day, which means a lot to me and my family.

Tell us something Interesting about yourself.

Well…most people don’t know that I’m a huge fan of animals and have a “miniature zoo” at my house. I’ve got a dog, 2 cats, a bird, a guinea pig, and a bearded dragon. If that’s not enough, I’m actively looking for another dog.

What do you enjoy doing when not working?

I love to swim and relax in my pool at home. It has helped me quite a bit in my recovery from surgery. Lay back on a floatie with a beer in hand…that’s the life.

Why do you work safe?

I work safe because of my family. I have a wife and 2 kids that I need to provide for and come home to. That means the world to me.
