Message from the Safety office

Good morning,

We are nearing the end of the 2022 construction season, however, we still have a lot left to do before we can relax and take a long needed break from this season. The hazards you faced in the beginning of the season, where effort was placed to identify them, implement controls, and reduce risk, are still there. The same level of dedication to minimize those hazards needs to continue until the work is over. We cannot allow ourselves to become complacent to the risks that you have been successfully managing all season long.

The increase in these incidents can be attributed to lack of planning when the task or conditions change. When the task changes, we HAVE to stop, think, and act. Allow the necessary time to plan ahead for potential risks and communicate to your team how to minimize those risks identified. If the risk has been identified, discussed, and mitigations communicated, the likelihood of an incident occurring are minimized significantly. The absolute biggest hazard is the unknown. When you don’t see or plan for a risk, you are now reactive to the situation and placed in a difficult situation when the hazard is presented.

STOP – THINK – ACT

We will still have a few weeks left in the season so lets stay focused on what we have in front of us. The same risks exist now as they did at the beginning of the year so plan the work and work your plan so you can enjoy the off season without injury.

Park Construction has been handing out a hoodie, a hat, and a tumbler as a token of our appreciation. Please see the attached letter from Park’s management team if you did not receive it upon delivery of your gift (click here).

Can you tell us more about your background and why Park Construction?

I’ve been in the Construction Industry for 26 years. I started doing Curb & Gutter and then moved into more of the commercial work to have better opportunities to work year-round.

I was working for another contractor and heard that Park (Marcy) needed help. Based on a referral from a Supervisor, I made the change to Park.

What is the favorite part about your job? What excites you most?

Doing something different almost every day.

Doing a good job and being proud of what you’ve done.

What has been your biggest achievement/success?

Running the North Valley Geothermal Project in Gerlach, NV.

What is the best career lesson you have learned so far?

Double check before you do something, so you only have to do it once. Even on the little things.

Why do you work safe?

I work safe because want to go home to my kids in 1 piece, and for everyone that works with me, so they can go same the same way they showed up.

What do you like to do when you aren’t working?

Spending time with my kids, going to their activities, and coaching softball.

Fun Question:  Favorite Movie?

Days of Thunder
